Program #11559RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

The high point was visiting Ellis Island. Made me realize how important immigrants are to this great nation. Exactly what is happening at this moment with the 57,000 illegal Central American children trying to gain entry! I enjoyed riding the NY subways for virtually all of our tours. Best were whole day spent at the marvelous NY Museum of Natural History, the 1/2 day at Central Park, incorrectly called a scavenger hunt, visits and dinner at Little Italy and Chinatown, the UN, Rockefeller Plaza, Top of the Rock, Statue of Liberty, walking across the Brooklyn Bridge , seeing a Broadway play on our free afternoon and eating dinner outdoors at Tavern on the Green afterwards, visiting Times Square, and seeing the NY Public Library and St. Patrick's Cathedral from the outside. Lots of walking! Better be in good shape! Food not the best; good way to lose weight, go on this trip!

A nice overview of the city. You can't see it all but this program gives you a taste. Grandkids seemed to be interested in most all of the sites visited.

I took my 9 almost 10 year old grand-daughter. It was a great program for both of us. I loved it all and I think she did too.

It is a lot of walking.

Thank you, Road Scholar, for a very wonderful experience in New York. Everything about it was wonderful with one small exception. It was, in my opinion, more than moderately challenging. I think it should at be referred to as Very challenging. I walk four miles a day routinely and felt that I would be in good shape for the tour. By the fourth day I had extremely swollen ankles which I have never had before. The leaders were great, the activities were great, and my granddaughter and I thoroughly enjoyed everything. Thank you so very much.....

This is a wonderful way to share the delights of New York City with your grandchild.

Dawn from Memphis, TN Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 07/13/14 - 07/18/14
Road Scholar said we would walk 3-5 miles a day, but didn't mention all of the subway stairs! However, I needed this and didn't gain weight despite consuming more food than usual. My grandchild was homesick, but the last day of trip found a friend to pal around with and that changed everything.

Hester from Irving, NY Number of programs attended: 2

My granddaughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our Road Scholar tour of NYC. We couldn't have asked for more knowledgeable tour leaders. My granddaughter is ready to return to the city now that she "knows" the city.

Anne from Garnet Valley, PA Number of programs attended: 4

The New York experince was wonderful. We traveled on foot, by bus by ferry and by subway. Our 10 year granddaughter loved it as much as we did.

Roz from Frisco, TX Number of programs attended: 10
Date attended: 08/01/13 - 08/06/13
Some of the talks should be more kid friendly - even some of the sights - the Indian Museum was boring to them. How about a tour of Radio City instead.
