Road Scholar
Program #20821RJ
19 Days | 18 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

It was a great trip! The hosts and guides were full of information, and the home stays were somewhat similar to our B&Bs. Road Scholar leaped to my aide when I missed plane connections, and I hardly knew that I had missed a flight. It was an adventure: living in a castle with peacocks on the lawn, monkeys on the terraces, and a very gracious host and hostess.

If you want to get off the beaten path and be with the people and their surroundings this is a trip for you. It is the trip of a lifetime. After this trip you will check with Road Scholar before traveling with any other travel group.

Everything about this program was wonderful. It is the perfect way to get to know the people of India. The time in Delhi was perfect. I felt totally comfortable at Tree of Life and would stay there any time visiting Delhi again. The two weeks in Kalwar couldn't have been any better. Castle Kalwar became a second home away from home. And of course working with the children was totally rewarding. I can only hope we touched their lives as much as they touched mine. Anurag saw that everything ran smoothly and took care of us as any loving son would. I would recommend this program to anyone who believes that the children are our world's future.

This is definitely a program worth experiencing ! You can be sure of feeling safe in India throughout the whole trip. The guides put us on the trains and made sure we and our luggage were safe. At our station destinations there was someone waiting for us on the train platform as we disembarked and a certified redcap to take our luggage to a waiting tourist van. Our guides stayed with us during our "free times" in each city and our guide in Delhi took good care of us on the Metro system which by the way is quite modern. We had no problems with any stomach ailments and our hosts always made sure the food was not too spicy. Would recommend bringing stickers, rotary pencils , and preschool level story books to help with teaching the students. They know the English alphabet well but need help with building vocabulary . Simple picture books with the word below it such as you would buy for a three or four year old, reading readiness type books etc

This is an incredible trip combining historic sites with a small village stay and working in local schools. Accommodations, travel arrangements and guides were excellent. This was a trip of a lifetime There were four participants. We met each day to brainstorm for teaching ideas so there was really no need to have an education background - just an interest in working with very enthusiastic students. Much of our work was with games and songs. We were given rupees in Delhi to purchase supplies but we would recommend waiting to meet the students to determine their needs and also to purchase the supplies in the village. Any of us would welcome an opportunity to share our experience with anyone thinking about attending. JANS 10/15-11/2/13

This tour was above and beyond my expectations. I really appreciated the opportunity to have personal contact with the Indian society. The school children were so respectful and receptive to our efforts to teach English. This was a special experience that will not be forgotten.

Mind-expanding, incredibly poor, beautiful, ugly -- what an adventure! Such a different culture yet we're all the same. The Indian people are gracious and welcoming with easy and open smiles. Many stray animals, so animal lovers be prepared. The children at the Kalwar Village government school were eager to learn and caught on quickly -- they captured my heart and, in spite of myself, I cried as we said good-bye.

The students love to sing, so please be prepared with songs. Small maps for each student would be helpful -- they loved pouring over the big map I had brought and were fully engulfed with picture postcards I had purchased in India. There is always a need for pens and pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners, small notebooks. An orphanage near by can use children's/teens' clothes.

Do yourself and the students a favor and take this adventure -- you'll never forget it!

This program was wonderful. We saw all of the most famous and beautiful sites of India, as well as getting to know the real India by staying in a village and teaching at the local school. The students were welcoming and enthusiastic; our guide, Suez, was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful; staying at the Castle and being greeted each morning by monkeys and peacocks was quite an experience! I looked at many other tours of India, thru Road Scholar and other companies, but think that this was the best.
