EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Attending the Kentucky Derby was on our "bucket list". When the Road Scholar program was announced, we enrolled quickly. What a marvelous experience both in Lexington at the many outstanding horse farms, hospital, museum and retirement farm for thoroughbreds. The oganizers and presenters were outstanding. The race can be seen better on television, but the experience with 165,000 horse race enthusiasts could not be replicated in front of our tv in the comfort of our home.

This trip fulfilled the dream of a lifetime. Of course it was hot and crowded, and i'll watch the Derby on my TV in my cool home next year, but the thrill of actually being there, seeing the hats and the "costumes" on men as well as women, was just fantastic. I'll remember it always! It's kind of like the Super Bowl - once was an experience I wouldn't trade, but once was enough!!! whee !!

This was my first experience with Road Scholar. I loved the itinerary it was very informative. We could have had a shorter visit at Keenland and a tour of Churchill Downs. The seats for the races were terrible, we couldn't see a thing. Perhaps the third level would have been better. The accommodations at Lexington were superb but the ones in Louisville were certainly not. The meals were very good with the exception of the first night. But really who puts two ladies travelling together in a room with one king bed, and really we paid too much for the trip to sleep on a couch. Also the room reeked of smoke until we asked to have it fogged. Certainly unacceptable. On the whole though I had a blast and would do it again just to see those magnificent horses!!!

Road Scholar's response:
We appreciate all of the feedback we received after our inaugural Road Scholar program at the Kentucky Derby. For 2013 we’ve upgraded our seats to third floor grandstands, which are shaded and feature outstanding views of the entire track. We’ve also upgraded the accommodations to the historic Galt House Hotel, the official hotel of the Derby, which is located right in the heart of Louisville. The Derby is a truly sensational event that draws many people and Road Scholar is thrilled to provide an opportunity for participants to be part of the excitement!

This was a great educational and entertainment experience. I highly recomend it for another year!

Lewis from Saint Louis, MO Number of programs attended: 3

Not up to Road Scholar's usual high standards. The grandstand seats at Churchhill Downs were so low that we could not see over the infield to the far side of the track, and had to watch the races on TV in the bar. Motel accomodations in Louisville were substandard too.

Too hot too crowded and you cannot see or hear anything, not for the faint of heart
