Road Scholar
Program #20593RJ
7 Days | 6 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Go for it Go for it. It was a bucket list item that was filled by Raod Scholar that was over the top far exceding our expectations!

I had an excellent time and enjoyed the other participants, our leaders, educators and of course the main events as well. The organization and ease of each day was greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Every event outlined in the Program Details was excellent. The field trips were very well done, and the field trip guides were experienced, knowledgeable, and well prepared. These educational field trips were supplemented by evening educational programs lead by the "resident" lecturer, Dr. Claypool, and Remi Bellocq (a former jockey). Dr. Claypool enhanced the program with his knowledge and accessibility throughout the week. The group leaders, Rick and Sandy, were warm and friendly, as well as effective facilitators. The Derby and Oaks arrangements (grandstand seats, lounge/buffet, and transportation to and from) were outstanding. In summary, it was an excellent, nicely prepared/organized, and well-run program.

This was a worthwhile trip that I was glad I signed on to. Race days were glorious, with great amenities. To my surprise most women did wear dresses and sport fancy hats, (the people watching was amazing), and I was certainly glad I brought my own do it yourself chapeau. However, over all, this was the least well organized Road Scholar trip I have taken. The fact that no feedback was requested on administration, accommodations, restaurants, excursions, or speakers, some just fine, some not so fine, was indicative of a not quite ready for prime time operation.

Road Scholar's response:
After completing a Road Scholar learning adventure, a program evaluation form will be sent either by e-mail or standard mail according to your preference. We look forward to reading your feedback! We have several positive changes in the works to help with the overall organization of next year's Kentucky Derby program.

A chance to learn everything you ever wanted to know about horse racing with several experts, including a racing historian/author and a ex-jockey.

We learned about horses and horse racing from interesting behind the scenes tours and great speakers before going to the Kentucky Derby and the Oaks. Then Road Scholar provided a wonderful VIP curbside service the day of the Derby. We enjoyed the excitement of the crowds without having to fight the crowds.
