EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

The program was excellent. I am the geology enthusist in the family but even my husband thoroughly enjoyed it. Kirt Kempter lead the geology portion and was very good at making the science understandable to people with little geology or geology taken 50 years ago.

The hiking was not strenuous, rarely more than a mile but there are inclines and no stairs except at Bandelier National Monument. One participant had problems which limited what she could see.

I was originally put off about the art portions of the program but I really got into. Much of where we hiked is the country that Geogia Okeefe painted and we all became familiar with the rocks and mesas she painted. It is gorgeous country.

My favorite field trip was to the Valles Caldera. This is Kirt's speciality and he made us see the activity which created the caldera. (I purchased his Valles Caldera map (High Desert Field Guides).

We had free time in both Santa Fe and Taos for shopping. The leaders were very good about suggestions for places to eat on our free time.

Both instructors were very informative. Alan Osborne added a lot to my understanding of the history and culture of the area.

Like most Road Scholar programs the food and lodgings were a mix. We had some great meals and some so so meals. The same was true of the hotels. However, the company was good and the programs are excellent.
