Moderate
These programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
Active
For people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately Challenging
For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
Challenging
Get ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

The organization and variety of this program was superior. History, stories (tall or not), walking tours, museums, missions, restaurants, historic lodging on the River Walk. It's more than the Alamo!

This program was outstanding. The coordinator was highly organized and everything ran smoothly. The speakers all had wonderful outgoing personalities and presented material in a stimulating manner. The hotel was terrific. I left feeling enriched. In all, I would highly recommend this program. Pat from NY

Overall, an excellent program but it involved too much walking. The first day (Monday) was particularly difficult, with a lot of walking followed by a boat cruise at night. It would have helped to spread the activities out over the week a bit. The lectures were great and the hotel was fabulous. I'd recommend the program, especially if it involved a slower pace.

This was my 1st Road Scholar trip and it will not be my last. The leader (Margie) was outstanding and the group was welcoming to me (the only Texan)and everyone had glowing reviews of their previous trips - so I have decided this is a great way to travel. Thanks to all of the participants in this trip (March 17/22) hope to see y'all again. Madeline

Lectures on San Antonio Now and Then and on Mary Menger, Alamo Proprietress were particularly good. Walking tour of downtown including La Villita and the Alamo, the walking tour of the King William District, the coach tour to the McNay Art Museum and San Jose Mission, the river walk barge cruise and the visit to the Insitute of Texan Cultures were all good. Public transportation was used on 3 days and it is easy to use. A coach bus was used on one day. There are stairs to the River Walk, but elevators and ramps can be found here: http://www.sanantonio.gov/publicworks/dao/riverwalkmap.aspx

San Antonio In Miniature by Jeff Nelson How I asked and why? last week before I came. Then I was red or blue I asked, how could you be that? How and why? Today in San Antonio the real America. The real story, I think. And people from east and west from north and south. First strangers, now friends. No red or blue, just people just friends, just Americans. San Antonio in miniature.

Put this program on your wish list!!! It is chocked full of interesting presentations and places with passionate leaders and guides. As a single traveler I appreciated the safe environment and was able to enjoy the beauty of the city and River Walk in the evening hours. It is a delightful program filled with humor and interesting tidbits. Go to this wonderful city, you'll be "hooked" by the Texans!

This is an excellent Road Scholar program located in a comfortable hotel on the lovely Riverwalk that offers free appetizers and drinks every evening. The speakers are interesting and knowledgable and the guides are not only organized but entertaining. If you want to learn about San Antonio, sign up for this program.

This was an enjoyable five days – well planned with just the right combination of activity and down-time. There were four morning lecture periods touching on various aspects of the culture and history of south Texas and all were terrific – especially the one presented by The Biggest Liar in Texas. There were also four comprehensive field trips and our program leader twice took a “detour” to add more to our list of sites. Three positive items you won’t get from just reading the program description – (a) the hotel was an excellent choice with large rooms and Riverwalk access, (b) the cafes chosen for our four lunches were all top-notch and (c) the program leader and her daily guides were all skilled and knowledgeable. This was a good program selection and allowed us to experience art by Toulouse-Lautrec, interact with a chef who has cooked puffy tacos for the White House and enjoy a free happy hour each afternoon.

An exceptional not-to-be-missed program. Extremely knowledgeable, entertaining and enthusiastic speakers. Great in-depth tour of the city. Fantastic meals and hotel (Drury Plaza ideal location). Guides and leaders were excellent and well organized. No negatives at all. Highly recommended. Wonderful experience.

This was my fifth Road Scholar program. I've enjoyed every one, but this one was a truly outstanding mix of educational and enjoyable experiences (and great food). Everyone was great and two presenters (Bill Perryman and Allan Kownslar) were particularly notable. The cooking class with Diana Barrios was also a highlight. The listening devices were a welcome new feature. Loved the hotel we stayed (Drury Plaza).
