EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This is a program for serious hikers who enjoy a challenge. Be prepared to be out hiking every day from morning till late afternoon. The location is fairly isolated, so there is not much opportunity for other activities. Also be prepared for all kinds of weather throughout the week. In our case, it was mostly rain and more rain.
The two leaders, Ken and Mark, as well the volunteer guide Jane, provided a wealth of information and education about the area. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and interacting with all three of them. Ken did a great job of organizing everything, and Mark gave daily readings of naturalists and other authors, a nice addition to the lectures. Some of us thought Ken described some of the hikes as less difficult than they seemed to us, but there was always the opportunity for a shorter hike.
The lodge was very nice, the rooms very clean, and the food plentiful. A herd of elk grazed outside our windows every morning, and we did see one black bear on the road. The ladies at the Senior Center and at a church cooked several very tasty meals for us. And as on all my Road Scholar trips, my fellow participants were simply delightful.
