Program #20297RJ
9 Days | 8 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

My husband and I had a wonderful experience with a great leader, terrific bus driver and new friends who traveled with us. Our trip was well organized and helped to keep us on schedule to visit a beautiful part of our country. I highly recommend it to all.

This was a fantastic program thanks to great planning by our tour director, Marilyn. Her love of the area and knowledge of the sights enhanced every place that we visited. Mt. Rushmore has been on my bucket list for years and it was such special experience actually being there and then taking the walk to see the heads from all different angles. One of the things I like best about Road Scholar trips is that we stay in the park lodges whenever possible and this trip certainly did not disappoint. Imagine seeing "Old Faithful" geyser not only during the day but in the evening surrounded by millions of stars overhead or eating breakfast with the beauty of the Tetons right out the window. I could go on about all the wonderful experiences in this trip but you really need to experience it yourself.

Sandy from Montgomery, OH Number of programs attended: 2

I thought the trip was great! I was at Mt Rushmore when I was 11,and was trilled to be there again. The rest of the trip was beautiful and informative.

This is an excellent program--very well organized. I expected the National Parks to be spectacular, and they were..the program also introduced me to places I didn't know existed that I was glad to learn about, such as the Crazy Horse sculpture on a mountain top. Marilyn is an excellent leader and sets a great tone for the group.

We just got back from the Road Scholar program to Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone Park, and the Tetons. I cannot say enough good things about this program. Not only was the scenery breathtaking, the educational material was presented in an inspiring way. Even the coach driver was an integral part of the learning experience. I will have great memories for the rest of my llife.

We chose this trip because it covered all the places in the area we wanted to visit with the added bonus of accommodations at three historic lodges. I never knew it was possible to cover so much territory in a week. Marilyn is a master at time management, efficiently moving us from site to site while regaling us with pieces of history I never knew about the area. Corey was a very competent, patient, and courteous driver. They make a great team. As always, we enjoy meeting participants from all over who like to travel and learn. We highly recommend this trip.

Steve from San Jose, CA Number of programs attended: 4

Tour director, Marilyn Hovland, was extremely knowledgeable and added greatly to the tour content. She provided us with several anecdotal facts and the “back stories” that we would or could not know about otherwise. She addressed both past history and current-day status of all areas and venues that we saw. She thoughtfully and carefully selected DVDs and handouts that were both interesting and relevant that supported what we were seeing and hearing on the trip. We liked being able to actually see and experience many of the national treasures that we had only read about previous to the trip. We greatly appreciated the in-depth learning about the Native American history and experiences of those Indians who lived in these areas historically. Many of the venues that we visited we were not even aware existed before this trip. Needless to say, we learned a lot of great history that we might not have had access to otherwise. The trip was very well planned and organized. We saw a great deal in the time allotted. Marilyn knew how to make the best use of the time allotted for the tour.

Miri from Marietta, GA Number of programs attended: 1

This was a spectacular trip! Marilyn is amazingly knowledgeable, well organized, flexible, considerate, and entertaining. Corey added his driving skill and warm personality to make it a memorable trip. This was my first experience with Road Scholar but I'm sure it won't be my last. It was a comfortable and educational way to visit some of the wonders of our beautiful country. I also recommend the dinner cruise on the Snake River. It was a blast!

Marilyn from West Palm Beach, FL Number of programs attended: 13
Date attended: 06/14/14 - 06/22/14
This is one terrific program not to be missed! It was well organized, very encompassing, lead by an extremely competent leader (Marilyn Hovland), and was 100% fun (even with Nature's little surprises of snow and hail!).

Roy from Sault S Marie, MI Number of programs attended: 3

This Road Scholar trip was just amazing. The amount of places that we went to and the quality of our experience was just marvelous. Marilyn is one of the best tour guides we have ever encountered. Her knowledge, passion, and organizational skills are without equal. Her ability to solve small problems that pop up is certainly admirable. She enhanced our tour with pertinent hand outs and DVDs. Corey is a most competent and personable driver. Again, hats off for Road Scholar. Roy & Janet from Sault Ste.Marie, MI

Diane from Franklin, WI Number of programs attended: 2

This program is enhanced by the Marilyn's knowledge and passion; the background information coupled with site visits helped me understand what I had only read about in history books. With Road Scholar I don't need to be concerned with where to stay, where to find meals, and standing in line for tickets, as it's all taken care of. The accommodations were superb, and the food tasty and plentiful. The buffalo stew was a special treat! Marilyn is an efficient, yet personable leader, and Cory's skill as a bus driver gave us one less thing to worry about.

A wonderful way to see part of the country that is very different from the urban areas many of us are accustomed to. Excellent leadership and educational opportunities, with a chance to stretch your legs and your mind often. Physical ability is somewhat important, but it is easy to make choices to fit the more, and the less, physically active.

Barbara from Mechanicsburg, PA Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 06/22/13 - 06/30/13
From start to finish, this was a great adventure! I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
