Program #1932RJ
7 Days | 6 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This program enables you to adequately tour many of the major sites in S.Dakota and Wyoming including Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, and Devils Tower along with great scenery and museums. There is a lot of time on the bus by necessity but if you can only make one tour of the area, this is the one for you.

I will try to write an objective and truthful review that will help those who may be considering this tour. First, the good things: The scenery was amazing! The hotels, ranging from historical to modern, were lovely in their own unique way. Most of the meals were very good. We were given a great deal of information thru videos on the coach, by our tour directors' lectures, and by self educating at the many places we visited. Our fellow travelers were delightful and were quick to help each other, when needed. Our driver was the best! Now for the bad: If you don't like long bus rides, this trip is NOT for you We failed to research the distances that we would be traveling and no reviews by previous travelers mentioned it. The long days were exhausting, especially for a group of seniors. We wish that we had chosen to either tour the North/South Dakota region OR Yellowstone/Grand Tetons region, but not both in 5 days.

This was our first RS adventure and we cannot wait to do another one. This trip is primarily a motor coach tour with lots of on and off the bus stops for photo opportunities or rest stops. There are two very long days to cross and recross Wyoming...but no way around that. It had a very ambitious itinerary but provided ample time at each of the scheduled stops and even a couple of extra excursions thrown in. Hotel accommodations and food were very good. Tour Directors, Pat and Paul Barber were outstanding. Driver was excellent. Glad we flew in a day early and booked a side tour to Badlands...if you are out there, it's a must see. Also glad we stayed an extra night to decompress and get ready for the trip home. Met lots of wonderful people, learned a lot and had a wonderful time. Thank you RS and thank you fellow travelers.

Our leader, Marilyn Howland was about the best leader we have ever had. She was a professional, knowledgable, talented and expert coordinator.

This was my first Road Scholar program, but it certainly won't be my last. If all the program leaders are as excellent as Marilyn Hovland, I know that I won't be disappointed.

Sylvia from New York, New York June 15-June 21, 2013 On the Road-South Dakota and Wyoming was my first Road Scholar trip. It may have set a standard that will be hard to match. The program was full of information and interesting experiences. Marilyn and her staff were warm and gracious, and always attentive to our needs. Throw in the amazing places that we visited, and you have a total success.
