Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. Minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Outstanding 10 days: well organized, great locations, terrific staff — a fine return (and an educational one) to the Colorado Plateau for us. We would recommend without reservation. Peter & Jane Stein

The sites seen on this trip are breathtakingly beautiful. To see them live instead of in a photograph is a special experience. I would take this trip if I were you.

Marc and Chrystal are the best guides and group leaders you will ever have: TOP Geological expertise presented in an organized and easy to understand format; with logistic savvy that ensures you will see all the best of Utah.

Carol from Vancouver, WA Number of programs attended: 22

Very much enjoyed visiting the National Parks of Utah. The geologist was amazing to have along on the bus and our hikes. Fantastic bus driver. The rooms were okay to quite nice. The food was good some places and so-so others. There are limited choices in some areas. But the experience and the value was wonderful. Appreciate our parks even more than we did before.

Michael from Mooresville, NC Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 05/25/15 - 06/04/15
It would truly have been hard for this trip to be any better. Got to see what I believe is the most beautiful part of the country with guides who let me know how it got that way. Even the bus rides were fun and educational.

Sharon from Fishers, IN Number of programs attended: 1

This trip was so much fun and seeing a very fascinating part of the US. The beauty at times is breathtaking. This is a very easy trip to do physically. Many of the paths were paved and created a nice walking trip not hiking trip.

Ruth from Dallas, TX Number of programs attended: 2

Mary from New York, NY Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 05/11/15 - 05/21/15
This is a wonderful way to see ALL the Utah parks + Lake Powell and Antelope Canyon on the Navaho Reservation and the leaders were amazing, informative and passionate. This is NOT a trip for gourmets (did every box lunch have to be turkey?)and the accommodations are modest (only one elevator in all 5 hotels, so pack light!!) Mary T from NYC.

Natalie from Surprise, AZ Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 05/11/15 - 05/21/15

Jo from Austin, TX Number of programs attended: 2

I had visited and hiked southern Utah several times in my life, but as amazing as all those previous visits were, this Road Scholar trip was by far the best. Not only did I get to experience the awe and majesty of the area, I also learned a lot about the science and history. Quite an experience!

Winifred from Broadalbin, NY Number of programs attended: 55

If you want an informative and interesting trip viewing five national parks and more, this will fill the bill. The native American component was also good. Edge of Cedars museum is a treasure.

Thomas from Tucson, AZ Number of programs attended: 1

If you have never seen the National Parks of southern Utah such as Zion; Bryce; Capitol Reef; and others, and you would like to experience them, this is the trip for you. These parks are unbelievable and the knowledge you will gain about about the geology of the area will blow you away. Highly recommended!

Steven from Gainesville, FL Number of programs attended: 1

This was an itinerary I wanted to take for a long time. My expectations were exceeded. Was not put off by modest accommodations, food or luggage care at all. Activity level was not too excessive. Absolutely wonderful experience. See this before going abroad for sure.

Cynthia from Tucson, AZ Number of programs attended: 6

Breath-taking scenery! Knowledgeable leaders with great organizational skills and humor! Entertaining lecturers! This program more than lived up to my expectations based on its description as well as comments from participants I had met in other programs. Easy to see why it is a favorite of many.

Eleanor from Moose Lake, MN Number of programs attended: 14
Date attended: 04/23/15 - 05/03/15
What a beautiful area! This was a good time of the year to come as the walks would be much less enjoyable in the heat of summer. Dennis and Linda work so well together to make it a fun and smooth learning experience for everyone.

John from San Antonio, TX Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 04/23/15 - 05/03/15
This is fabulous and unique country whose visit was enhanced markedly by the quality of the Road Scholar staff -- the geologist, coordinator and bus driver. Accommodations were always ready and more than adequate. The cost was about the same if my wife and I had done it on our own and we would have missed the best features of the geology presentations. John Wolcott

Arlene from Walnut Creek, CA Number of programs attended: 2 Date attended: 10/16/14 - 10/26/14 The scenery was beautiful on the whole trip. There was a great variety of activities with scenery viewing, informative speakers (with humor), walks and moderate hikes to many places in red rock country, and two TERRIFIC leaders - husband and wife team Linda (coordinator) and Dennis (geologist) who made the trip extra special with their knowledge, organization, and wonderful humor. Our finale on the trip was going to Antelope Canyon - a gorgeous canyon that is not to be missed! Even a point-and-shoot digital camera can take fantastic pictures of it. Great trip!

NIDO from San Ramon, CA Number of programs attended: 1

An awe inspiring experience in one of the most beautiful places to be found anywhere in the world. We learned about the geology, culture and peoples of the region from our geologist guide, Dennis Williams, who knew his subject like the back of his hand and made the landscape come alive with his wonderful storytelling. His wife and our coordinator, Linda Williams, was a natural, patient and organized administrator for our large group of 42, who kept us all firmly in line, but with humor, patience and a wonderful attitude. Dennis and Linda obviously loved and enjoyed what they were doing, and that infused the experience of everyone on board. A memorable, not-to-be-missed trip, led by two exceptional leaders.

Kathleen from Pasadena, CA Number of programs attended: 7

All the great things said about this trip by reviewers below are true. We were very fortunate to have Marcia Cooper as our leader, Janice Hayden as our educator, and Kelly Cooper as our bus driver. They were a perfect team and made our trip very memorable. Outstanding scenery plus warm friendly people, and who knew geology could be so interesting? Thanks Janice!

Kenneth from Morgan Hill, CA Number of programs attended: 1

This was my first Road Scholar outing and the program exceeded all my expectations. The trip leaders, Darrell and Paula McMahon did an outstanding job in coordinating our activities and teaching us Utah geology and history, while keeping us smiling at all times with anecdotes from other tours. The trip for sure is a cursory view of Utah’s major National Parks and Monuments. And the hikes were short and not strenuous at all. But I knew all this when I signed up. I consider Program #2814RJ a scouting trip for a return trip to Utah for more extensive hiking and exploring of one or two parks. And I suspect my return trip will be with Road Scholar.

Louise from Maryville, TN Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 10/06/14 - 10/16/14
This trip was a wonderful experience. My husband and I met interesting, pleasant travel companions and encountered natural majesty we had not seen before. As we think back on the trip, we are continually amazed at all that we were able to learn and do. Darrell and Paula led us with expertise and creativity. Paul, our driver, was a wizard on mountain roads and added his own good humor to the trip. We will not forget the sound of native flute music echoing down a canyon, the swirls of color in Antelope Canyon, the surreal spires of Bryce, the beautiful layers of earth displayed in Arches, Zion, etc., and the delicate wildflowers blooming in the most unlikely places. This tour was magical!

Peggy from Spring, TX Number of programs attended: 15
Date attended: 10/16/14 - 10/26/14
This was my 15th RS learning adventure; yet another I would highly recommend! I hope you are lucky enough to get the husband and wife team of Dennis and Linda Williams!!!! I suggest that you bring your own hiking poles and wear hiking shoes. Some areas are sandy; gators would have been great to keep the sand out of your shoes and socks.....

Sharon from Christiansburg, VA Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 10/09/14 - 10/19/14
This was a wonderful trip with absolutely amazing scenery!!

Susan from Lacey, WA Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 10/06/14 - 10/16/14
The perfect Roads Scholar trip whether your first or your tenth! Incomparable scenery. Photos can't do it justice. You have to see it for yourself, especially if you are fortunate enough to have Darrell and Paula McMahon as your leaders. Not only does Darrell know everything there is to know and can answer any question you have, he uses excellent teaching tools, has an outstanding sense of humor and a special sensitivity. Paula is caring, able to handle any last minute situations and plays a gorgeous Indian flute which is magical when deep within the Navajo sandstone landscape! And Paul Peterson drove the bus so confidently and safely, never an anxious moment! You must go!

Phillip from Toledo, OH Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 10/06/14 - 10/16/14
Program 2814RJ was an outstanding learning experience thanks to group leader Darrell McMahon and his wife Paula. Darrell's comprehensive knowledge of geology, local plants and animals, ecology, archeology, and the recorded history of Utah was exceeded only by his innovative teaching methods. The program was also a comfortable experience, thanks largely to the precise handling of the motor coach by driver Paul Peterson. And it almost goes without saying that the scenery was spectacular.
