Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Great trip. Lots of downhill for the first few days. Good food. Beautiful area.

I would consider this an educational tour of a beautiful spot on the planet done on a bike. But if a serious biker were looking for a serious bike ride, this would not be for them. (serious as in 60 miles per day at 15-18 mph.)

This trip exceeded my expectations. I had concerns about the term "moderately challenging" biking since I am a recreational biker. I found the physical requirement within my capabilities. Additionally, the area we biked was some of the most beautiful scenery I have seen. This was combined with interesting history of the area. I highly recommend this trip.

If you like bicycle riding through absolutely the most beautiful surroundings in the world, this ride is for you. It was fun to meet our riding companions and get aquainted along the way.

It was a wonderful trip! As a woman traveling alone, I felt very comfortable & a part of the group. Biking was fantastic. I recommend this trip to anyone with a spirit of having fun, & seeing the country, not from a bus, but from a bike! GO FOR IT!!

Without a doubt the most beautiful ride ever offered by Road Scholar. Can't say enough about how well organized and glitch-free this ride was ( as usual). Our guides were more than great and we appreciated their 'watching out for all of us'. Highly recommended. A must do ride!! Terry Clark--Clemson, SC

Keep those bicycle trips going!

Do you like riding a bicycle to get from sight to sight? Do you like the feeling of being active instead of passive (like on a bus). Do you like riding mostly downhill at a moderate pace beside a beautiful river through mountain valleys? Would you like learning more about Germanic and Italian culture? Then this is the trip for you.

Ron from Gainesville, VA Number of programs attended: 6

One of the best bike trips we have done. The scenery was fantastic and it was downhill most of the trip. We lucked out with the weather, when it did rain, it was during the night and the day time riding was perfect.

I am not a cyclist, but was attracted to this program by the location and complex history of the area. It was a great experience all around--beautiful scenery, well-organized and planned-out days, perfect balance of touring in-town and free time to explore. I'm now looking into another bike trip with Road Scholar!

Larry from Granville, OH Number of programs attended: 8

This trip had the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen. The apple orchards were wonderful, the towns were beautiful and the countryside was great to ride through. The biking was easy as we had a lot of downhill biking. There were a few hills that were a challenge but our group handled them well. This is a great trip and I would strongly recommend it.

Elliot from Elmhurst, IL Number of programs attended: 5

We highly recommend this program for anyone who wants to experience scenic splendor along with local culture. This was a well-designed program that balanced activity and educational content (although we agree that the educational content should be increased). The program was executed to near perfection by our guides and made more enjoyable by the camaraderie of the participants. - Kate & Elliot Kaufman

As Bonnie and John already said, the scenery along the Adige River was unparalleled. The actual riding was fun—the downhills could be exciting and the few uphills challenging (at least for a couple of us). The program’s educational content should be increased, but what was there was good—especially the excellent local guides in Merano, Bolzano, and Trent. Other highlights were tours of an apple production facility and a marble sculpting workshop, and the Lake Garda ferry ride. Giancarlo looked after all of us and delivered us safely to our destinations, all the while maintaining his good humor. Pam & Don, Roseville, MN

John from Houston, TX Number of programs attended: 8
Date attended: 05/11/13 - 05/22/13
This tour took us through the most beautiful mountain scenery I had ever experienced up close (the top of the Alps!), along the most beautiful bike trail I have ever been on--dedicated paved asphalt biking/hiking trail covering 99% of the entire trip---and almost all downhill! Great lodgings, food, and guides along the way too! John and Bonnie McMillan
