ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

The 80 degree weather was perfect; the abundance and variety of shells blew my mind, I added new birds to my Life List, and the lodging was perfectly situated next to the tide line.

Busy but relaxing trip at the beach. I learned about the big variety of shells and marine life, visited the beautiful Edison & Ford Winter Estates while learning about both of those smart, forward-thinking men. Ding Darling Wildlife Preserve was beautiful, and our tram driver/guide was knowledgeable and always willing to stop so we could look at and photograph local birds and flora. Good trip for the money.

This is the trip for shell lovers. There are millions of various shells on Sanibel Island, and Road Scholar's experts helped us learn all about them and the creatures that live in them. The Edison and Ford Estates were a worthwhile day trip; we learned what geniuses both Edison and Ford were, as well has how they made major contributions to the U.S. - and the world - that we hadn't been aware of. And our weather was perfect all week.

Sanibel Island is beautiful and a unique conservation area. There are so many shells here I had to ship some home! The program provides a comprehensive education. This was my first RS program and I am looking forward to the next one.

This was an area of Florida I had not considered visiting before-but it was delightful, and very historically /culturally interesting.

This was a well-organized tour. It was very relaxing to have all the details taken care of. The hotel was nice and right on the beach that was absolutely loaded with shells. Eleanor was a great tour leader.

An excellent, consistently interesting adventure in a unique environment. First class accommodations made the always beguiling elements of sun, sand and surf even better. Now if we can just find uses for all of those sea shells.... John Bauman

I enjoyed being on the ocean and being able to find shells steps away from the hotel. The hotel pool was great and I wish I had made more use of it. I enjoyed our excursions. I didn't have a car and there were no stores that were reachable by walking. When you are running out of sun block that's a concern.

Beautiful Island to visit. Very well-planned program to choose and attend with other Road Scholar attendees. Visits to conservation points on the island are all very close to the hotel. You will see the birds of the island, seashells, sea life, sea turtles, trees, flowers and learn more about nature's habitats experienced in natural settings--no huge hotels to block the views of the ocean and the beauty of nature. Hotel is very close to the ocean and a lovely place to stay.

If you want to escape the cold and snow Sanibel Island is a wonderful place to go. Your hotel is located right on the water and the shelling is worldclass. The program is well planned and well paced and if you are lucky the weather will be perfect.

I enjoyed seeing nature at it's finest in Sanibel Island and learning all about seashells and doing "shelling" activities. It's a lovely place to visit
