ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

The Sierra Nevada mountains are beautiful but challenging mountains to early settlers like the Donner Party and the railroad builders. Being in the mountains in the winter and delving into the geography and history gave us a deep appreciation of these challenges and accomplishments

Train Tracks Across the Sierra is a must for train lovers and history buffs. Those of us who live in California need to know the history of this area so that we can better appreciate how and why the early settlers came here. This program met and exceeded all my expectations; don't miss it.

I am a train buff, and enjoyed riding on the California Zepher and seeing the only remaining SP cab forward steam engine on exhibit at the museum. It was my first trip to Sacramento and I was impressed with how nice it is there. The accomodations at the Hyatt were excellent and we had a great leader. The whole program was very well organized, which we have found to be typical of your offerings.

We really enjoyed the program....Train trek across the Sierra. The pace was manageable. The stories/lore were informative. The scenery lush......Mountains, lakes and towns. Food choices/restaurants were great. Our leader kept us on track and was a great teacher also.

We were fascinated with the train museum and the time in Sacramento. So enjoyed the train across the mountains and the beauty of the new fallen snow. Learned so much about the Donner party tragedy and we also enjoyed the trip around Lake Tahoe.
