Too involved...too many questions...too lengthy...too time consuming

For my first time at Road Scholar, I had a most enjoyable time, learned a lot and met some wonderful people that made the trip worth while. Plan to do more in the future.

This was a great 'taster' . We covered a lot of topics that describe Mendocino in enough detail to leave good memories without overdoing things. I enjoyed the program and will be looking for other programs that visit new places.

This was our first Road Scholar program but have attended 9 old Elderhostels programs. This one ranks right up at the top of the list. To learn so much about the history and environment of this little village and area that we have visited in the past will make the area become more of a pleasure to visit in the future than before. The program events were outstanding as were the lectures and docents. The Mendocino Hotel and Garden Suites could have been helped with a bit of paint in the rooms but, then, what Grande Dame couldn't. The room accomodations were comfortable and the food extremly good. The outstanding feature of this program was Mary Jackson and her volunteer aide, Drew. She is the best group leader we have ever had. She is very informative(or will find the answer to your question), cheerful, humerous and a lovely hostess as we all found out when she invited the group into her home. RoadScholar, you are fortunate to have found this lady for a group leader.

I highly recommend Historic Mendocino Program #6463. Mary Jackson was an excellent group leader, the area is beautiful Californa coastline, the food was the best I have had in 11 programs, the hotel is charming and historic and the instructors were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. There is not much free time, however, with all but one night having a scheduled meeting. Ron October 2013

This was my first Road Scholar trip. I was somewhat skeptical because my travel is usually nonstructured. But I must say this was wonderful. The structure was there, but I never left a lecture or a field trip wanting more information..each was complete and satisfying. I learned a lot. I appreciate the experience. I plan to enjoy more trips in the future!!. thank you!

My husband and I have been to Mendocino many times. We enjoy the beautiful setting and excellent restaurants. After participating in "Historic Mendocino: A Colorful Coastal Village" with Road Scholar we see Mendocino with totally different eyes. We learned so much and now realize that it is much more than the quiet village we once knew. We loved the walk to the Headlands and our visit to the Ford House was the highlight as docent Jenny Heckeroth went into character being Mrs. Ford. It was very special. We stayed an extra day in order to visit the cemetery where we read the headstones of many we learned about, including the small Chinese burial area with the family of Lorraine Hee Chorley, another outstanding docent at the Temple of Kwan Tai. Can't forget the Mendocino Botanical Gardens...they were wonderful.

Mendocino waits quietly on the Pacific Ocean to amaze you with its historic importance to early California. Lumber was "rolled" awkwardly yet successfully through sand to ocean, attracting early entrepreneurial figures. Cultures sprouted leaving trails of their colorful lives. Coming through heavy redwood forests to find this unique city is a promise of delight where the past still operates in original buildings. Have a wine from a velvet chair at its old hotel looking at the endless ocean to imagine how it might have been...
