Program #2811RJ This program was an ambitious one in terms of territory covered and associated content. Nevertheless, it surpassed our lofty expectations, based on the geographic beauty and historical-cultural richness of this diverse part of CA. Besides this content, the program was also delivered by personable and knowledgeable leaders (Pete & Darlene Haro), which also included the bus driver (Bob). Field-trip guides, while generally younger than the tour leaders, were also generally competent and engaging. The final program actually included a number of interesting venues that were not included in the online itinerary for the program, which was already quite rich in content. We highly endorse this program to anyone who is willing to commit some long days and miles of driving for a rich payoff in experiencing the wonders of half of this very large and diverse state.

Would take this trip all over again if given the chance. The scenery was breathtakingly beautiful. We saw so much; mountains, forests, rivers, lakes, deserts, volcanoes, the ocean, and learned so much about these areas, the geography, environment, animals, the people and the history. Many interesting speakers and guides educated us, including Frank Helling as John Muir, Frank Mullen’s enthralling description of the Donner Party, Lindsay Black in Sequoia, and naturalist David Lukas’ informative nature walks in Yosemite. We stopped at national, state and county parks and forests, large and small, and many places in between including museums, Shasta Dam, a botanical garden, a lighthouse, old Spanish mission, and wonderful little towns like Weaverville and Mendocino. We were able to take nature walks in places like Sequoia, Yosemite, Lassen, Taylor Creek, the Redwoods, and Pt. Cabrillo lighthouse; and we took a cruise on Lake Tahoe. Lodging was comfortable; we especially enjoyed Yosemite Lodge at the Falls and Mendocino Hotel. Food was very good and plentiful, with a variety of cafes and restaurants visited. Boxed lunches were always quite good, plus added the opportunity to picnic in beautiful parks. EduQuest really provided an excellent program. Our very organized and experienced guide, Barbara Crossland, along with Pat Furman and Bob Law, our super bus driver, made this trip the incredible experience it was. They had so much knowledge of the areas we visited, and their warmth and friendliness made the trip a totally positive experience. Definitely give this trip 5 stars!

This program met all expectations as stated in the Road Scholor and pre-program information.

Information and experiences were presented that allowed for an understanding of the important dependence of the Western waterways as California grows the extremely high percent of fruit and vegetable produce for the USA.

As leader, Barbara Crossland shared her knowledge, familarity and loving respect for the geography, trees, plants, and wildlife of the National Parks with the comfort and history of a local participant. This program was fun plus.

This program was excellent for an overview of the National Parks in Northern California. The Sequoia and Redwoods Forests are stunning!! The country is rugged and almost untamable. You have to see it to believe it!!

We had the most time in Yosemite where we were able to walk to Yosemite Falls, Bridalveil Fall, and Mirror Lake., it was special to view Half Dome in the lake. We were treated to excellent views of El Capitan on which several climbers were reaching for the summit, even after a fierce rain storm the night before. One of our guides is a mountain climber and she eagerly shared her experiences with us while demonstrating the tools she uses.

Another of our guides is a professional photographer and writer who knows a lot about Yosemite and was able to answer all of our questions.

What fun we had touring Shasta Dam, the second largest concrete dam in the world!

The subtitle for this program is water use, distribution, and control in California. It opened our eyes to the severe technical problems with water that California has had to overcome. We learned much about the environmental interaction among the forests, the animals, the humans, and the weather from experts in the field.

If you are interested in experiencing the largest trees in the world and the rugged mountains, then this trip is for you.

This was one of the best trips we've been on. The drive is long (over 1800 miles), but this meant we got to see a lot. We had anticipated that the parks would be pretty much the same, but the opposite turned out to be the case. We saw giant sequoias, volcanic cones and fumeroles, rugged coasts, redwood groves, and more. The parks were not at all crowded (though I doubt that would be the case in the summer). Barbara, Frank, and Bob-the-bus-driver made the long trip enjoyable by providing much knowledgeable (and funny) commentary. The motels were excellent, the meals great, and all was very well organized. EduQuest did a great job. Twice before the trip started we e-mailed them with questions, and both times we got a prompt and thorough response. We would highly recommend this trip to anyone.

Great outdoors scenery, very poor coordination/management. Not worth the money.
