ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Our trip (to Fairhope/Mobile, AL) had all the elements we love: music, history, architecture, sailing. We were well feed with great attention to those on glucose-free and diabetic diets. The speaker on the history of the area was so enjoyable I actually looked forward to learning more history! This was our first trip and I'm already signed up to go on another with my sister in June. Thank you so much Road Scholar for keeping the aging process fun, exciting, and life-changing.

In spite of the ice storm, Laurent, our director, Roy and Lynn along with a fabulous on site staff, Anna especially, we had a wonderful week. I would not hesitate to come back. I've done 30+ Elderhostel/Road Scholar programs and this would be ranked in the top five.

My husband and I had never attended a Road Scholar program and even though all of the promotional materials looked great (and the price was right), we had relatively low expectations. We were so WRONG! We have traveled the world but had never been to the Mobile Bay/Fairhope area. We thought going in January would be nice, wrong again as we were there during snow and freezing rain. The on-site coordinator, Roy Suderly (supported by his very capable wife), had no choice but to adjust our schedule multiple times due to terrible weather conditions. Roy was flexible, resourceful, helpful, supportive, creative and superb at the job of keeping 36 people happy with their experience. We didn't have to worry we KNEW we were in great hands. For me, the highlight of the entire experience were the speakers: Dean Mosher, a modern day Thomas Jefferson, a renaissance man, an American icon, spoke articulately and effortlessly about history, naval battles and then we were stunned by the historical accuracy of his superb paintings (one just added to the permanent collection at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum), I'm sorry that I didn't get his autograph because it may be worth millions one day. Tom Morley, the classically trained violinist turned fiddler, an incredibly gifted musician, was down to earth offering much information (and a power point presentation) about the history of stringed instruments/violins, spontaneously playing his fiddle (violin) to complement the presentation. The third impressive speaker was a woman boat captain who had build her own sloop, probably the only female in America with her credentials. In sum, speakers were exquisite, food was abundant, accommodations were adequate, site was terrific (but would have been more enjoyable had the weather been better). This experience ranks among one of the very best trips we have ever taken and the price was right! Arlene from VA Beach, VA

This was my first Road Scholar program and it was wonderful! Although I am familiar with the Fairhope Mobile area, everything in the program was new and most enjoyable. I especially liked and appreciated the program directors as well as fellow attendees. Linda Breecher

This was a very uplifting program for me. Sheila, our coordinator, as well as the Beckwith staff, was very hospitable and helpful, and the presenters were great.

This was our twentieth program and it was one of the better programs we have attended. The presenters were excellent and the food was outstanding. The area is beautiful. I'm not so certain it would be great during mosquito season.

Hannah from Jenkintown, PA Number of programs attended: 23
Date attended: 01/27/13 - 02/01/13
My husband and I attended this program and were thrilled with the rich content and variety of the classes. We met Dean Mosher, an artist and activist in Fairhope, who showed us around the lovely town (formed in 1894 as a utopian community), including a visit to his unique self-designed castle. We enjoyed Tom Morley's violin and fiddle playing in every style you can think of. And Carol Bramblett's dream of building a schooner and then accomplishing it over a 9-year period was heartwarming - and we got to sail on the boat! The accommodations at Beckwith Conference Center & Camp are basic, but it was a great place to stay - the camp borders Weeks Bay so you're right on the water. Nature trails and campfires are also on the property. A well-run, well-balanced, chock-full week.

Marianne from Bowie, MD Number of programs attended: 27

I: enjoyed learning about Fairhope and seeing and learning about Dean Mosher's home and castle. Judith Richards added to that story with descriptions of all the artists and writers that have made Fairhope their home.
