Road Scholar
Program #9113RJ
4 Days | 3 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This was a fantastic program. I learned so much about these three presidents. The lecturers were FANTASTIC and the transport and tour guides at the stately homes were wonderful. The English Inn was wonderful. The length of the program was just right for me. I would recommend this wholeheartedly.

....just when you thought you knew so much, you realize how much you have yet to learn about our forefathers.

My husband and I found this walk, back into the times of Jefferson, Madison and Monroe, one of the most enjoyable vacations we have had in years. We thought we knew a lot about these men, but this experience gave us a new and expanded view of an important time in our history.

This was our 40th Road Scholar program and though brief it was certainly stimulating. We gained a new appreciation for James Monroe's presidency and service having heard so much about Jefferson. Too bad even in a shortened program no meal at Michie Tavern instead of one of those box lunches!

Even after graduate study, on this period of time, I find that I learned something new about three great Americans. My perspective has changed. There was something special about the approach to the topic and the materials presented. There is nothing like being there and feeling the impact of our history.

Date attended: 10/20/13 - 10/23/13
It was a well run program which had a lot of thought and planning. It was appreciated by all of us. It was fun.

The educational part including lectures and tours was excellent. The hotel was just OK, a little old and had a bit of an insect problem (not bed bugs fortunately but some kind of critters). The food at dinner was just OK but lunches and breakfasts were good. We thought everything else was handled well and would certainly go on another tour with them. The impersonator (Dennis Bigelow) who did James Monroe was really superb and the fiddler Su Tarr was also very good. We liked all the lecturers. Jim Wooton and Beth Taylor were both very knowledgeable, friendly and we learned a lot. Marilyn kept everyone on schedule and was friendly. All in all I think we got good value for our money.

Road Scholar gives a trip-education-enjoyment-wonderfully already fully organized (activity, meals, accommodations)program. Anyone can find something they will appreciate.

Most interesting and thought-provoking trip! This trip was my first with Road Scholar and I now look forward to others. Kudos to Road Scholar.

Excellent, very active and interesting way to learn history.

Hal from Redwood City, CA Number of programs attended: 8
Date attended: 11/11/12 - 11/14/12
This program is rather short, but it packs a lot of activities into the time allotted. You learn a lot about the three presidents, although the focus is more on relationships and national/social history than on politics. There were three interesting field trips, five interesting lectures, and two outstanding performances (18th-century fiddle music and a reenactment of Pres. James Monroe). A web travelogue of our experience with this program is at http://www.posix.com/CVille12/

Sanna from Bethesda, MD Number of programs attended: 8
Date attended: 09/23/12 - 09/26/12
The study of the three Founding Fathers, Jefferson, Madison and Monroe was like a breath of fresh air. In this day and age when our country is fighting to keep Democrac in tact, it is a good thing to go back to our beginnings and realize how much was given then so that we can have it now.
