The trip had an easy relaxed pace while combining sights in the larger cities as well as visits to see art galleries , castles, and cathedrals. The barge was a pleasant place and the food served there was excellent. Although the trip was about "art and architecture" I would have liked to learn a bit more about modern-day Belgium. All in all it was a great experience with much learning and interactions with pleasant and positive participants, guides, and docents.

This trip was a terrific combination of destinations: both smaller cities and the large ones. We visited an interesting variety of destinations and learned much about Belgium. The group leader did a great job and all instructors and docents were excellent. The food and staff on the boat (and the bus driver) were great. We had a nice combination of group time and free time. The trip exceeded expectations- I'd recommend it to anyone!

This barge trip to Belgium was a good combination of group-led excursions and free time to explore. The guides were all very competent and informative.

The Belgium barge trip was wonderful. Our tour guide Jean-Louis was outstanding. His knowledge and management of the program made the program. Five stars for everyone who put on the program. We highly recommend this program to anyone who wants to see Belgium.

Beer and chocolate, Rubens and Van Eyck, carillons and cathedrals, mussels and frites, waffles and ice cream, what's not to love about Belgium? There is literally something for everyone here. And traveling by barge means that one unpacks only once, and that the group size is limited to no more than the number of participants that can fit in the 10 passenger cabins on the barge. To me, this is the ideal way to explore Belgium and enjoy this gem of the Low Countries, focusing on its unique traditions and artistic heritage, including the Flemish primitives, Flemish tapestries, and the exceptional architecture of its cities from Bruges to Ghent to Antwerp to Brussels. Jean-Louis is a highly personable and knowledgeable guide, hailing from Antwerp where he knows all the high points, but also has a personal relationship with all the local guides in the other cities visited, and makes every effort to ensure his guests leave with a most favorable impression of his native land. A week is barely enough to cover all this program has to offer, and I was really happy that I had a few days in Bruges on my own in advance of boarding the barge, and a few additional hours in Brussels after disembarking prior to heading to the airport. As the capital of Europe, Belgium deserves a stand alone program, and I for one was delighted to find this offering from Road Scholar dedicated solely to the Kingdom of Belgium.

The Belgium by barge trip was a rich, varied and well-planned tour via canal. It included historical and cultural materials in cities and byways. Jean Louis was an extremely well-informed guide, and the crew of the Fiep couldn't have been nicer or more accommodating!

For those who love art, particularly Rubens, and also want to learn more about Belgium, this is the perfect trip.
