Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This was one of the best trips I've done. Fall is a beautiful time of year in Alaska. Everyone involved, the leaders, guides, teachers, employees we encountered were great. I heartily recommend this program to anyone interested in seeing and learning about this unique place.

We both enjoyed the program very much. Always wanted to go inland in Alaska. Every where you looked you could have framed the picture. Road Scholar programs are always well planned and the instructors are the best. Rowena, e-mail me, please. We have been on 20 and 21 programs and always learn and see new and interesting things. Housing at Trail Lake Lodge could use a little inexpensive improvements or maybe a place in Seward. But with Elderhostel as with Road Scholar, you learn to go with the flow and all you remember later are the really good and fun happenings.

We loved our stay at Denali Learning Center and Trail Lake Lodge. At the Denali Learning Center, we were especially treated to wholesome, healthy, delicious food. Our instructors were great at both locations.Lodging was very adequate at both locations! Both had beautiful views !

Better descriptions of the accomadations. Small and cramped.

No true connection to the outside world. no internet, no wi fi. People these days should be able to keep connected to world and national news, like hurricanes in progress and the effect on their travel, ways to print boarding passes and plane information without going to a neighboring hotel or bar.

Lots of time on a bus going in and out of Seward, why not stay in Seward and not drive back and forth to Moose Pass every day. I do understand the eco impact of less time in Moose Pass.

I am recommending this program very highly. I did this program with my husband in the "shoulder season", and therefore was able to witness the "greening" of Denali over the week and to see the newly-born moose calves. My recommendation is in part due to the excellent teaching of Nan Eagleson, who also does the EH birding programs, among others, in Denali. The initial hike was at the Savage River and Nan educated us not only on the behavior of area birds, but also on the mammals, flora, geology and climate as we walked along the path. In addition to the hikes, Nan gave two lectures over the week on subarctic nature, and the changes being wrought by variables such as climate change. Back to the Savage River hike: Some parts of the path were a little challenging for some people, but the activity level is a 5, and was not difficult for most people. Some people did not bring the recommended waterproof hiking boots, and I certainly found them to be quite useful on the trail, as is a hiking stick. The cabins are rustic, as others have explained in last year's reviews, but I think that they are in very good condition. The program activities were well-planned. This is like being at a camp for adults, and it was a lot of fun. While a review from last year had some issues with the Kenai Peninsula portion, I think that this year those issues have been resolved very nicely. Free time is explained, with plenty of guidance and options. We had Ben Ikerd as our program leader and he was wonderful. He is the age of the participants and could relate to issues that only older folks really know about. He is an excellent guide and planned things like clockwork, with a bit of leeway for getting up in the morning. While the Kenai shoulder season weather ranged between mid-forties and a bit wet to sunshine, people who brought the recommended rain suit and layers of clothing were well prepared. A guided Kenaitze archeological site visit provided perspective from one of the area tribes.
