ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

If you are interested in art or art history of the Golden Age in The Netherlands this trip is for you. Also, the crew of the Allure made the trip special. It was very enjoyable travelling on smaller canals which gave one a view into everyday life in The Netherlands.

I went in 4 days prior to the Road Scholar program in order to see & do things that I was interested in that weren't on the program. I would encourage anyone to consider doing that as well. It gave me more time to discover Amsterdam. Traveling on a barge was such a wonderful way to see so much of the countryside as well as visiting the museums. I loved understanding more about how to truly appreciate the art and the artist. The food on board the barge was EXCELLENT and the ship staff was so personable. We grew as a community with others on the trip and shared many experiences. Keep on searching and learning.

This was a relaxing, enjoyable trip, but did not include as much time at major museums as it should. We could have spent another hour or more at the museum in Leiden, rather than walk around the town where nearly everything was closed and it was cold and raining. Our leader was very nice, but not really interested in art, and not as knowledgeable about the cities we visited as I'd hoped. This trip needs a good deal of fine tuning, though the barge and the food especially was outstanding. The time in Amsterdam was mostly wasted or we were on our own, though the Rijksmuseum would have been a natural destination and the Van Gogh museum is next-door to it for those who wished to visit it. The Van Gogh museum was open until 9PM on the Friday we arrived back, but the farewell dinner was that evening, so we couldn't go to both, it would be nice to have the dinner a night early and allow participants to use that last afternoon and evening to see more of Amsterdam. It was a pleasant trip, with enjoyable fellow travelers.

Scenic, peaceful, beautiful waterways and countryside; expert lectures; museums, churches and entire sections of towns, cities and canals built 400-plus years ago: The Netherlands is drenched in history and beauty. We had time to study and appreciate masterpieces from the Golden Age and later, by Vermeer, van Dyck, Rembrandt, Rubens, Hals and many more.
I enjoyed the small group, the relaxed cruises on the canals and rivers, and the experienced leaders and lecturers. All in all, a memorable experience.
