I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Sedona and the Grand Canyon. It is such a beautiful area and the Grand Canyon is simply magnificent, all of which was truly enhanced by the informative lectures and presentations.

Shirley from Johnson City, TN Number of programs attended: 2

This is a great program with great leaders. They were very knowledgeable of the area. We were hesitant about Super 8 Motel, but the service there was very good also. The Sedona area and Grand Canyon are just unbelievable. Shirley Barrett

This was truly an unforgettable experience. I made sure to pick a date when the program was based at the Poco Diablo Resort, rather than the Super 8 Hotel, and I'm glad I did. Staying at Poco Diablo made it so easy to immerse oneself in Sedono's amazing landscape--red rock buttes in all directions. In addition to the spectacular setting, the resort offers comfortable rooms(everyone had their own balcony), delicious food, an outdoor swimming pool and jacuzzi, and spa services. I came home feeling energized by the fabulous Road Scholar program (Grand Canyon visit, Verde Valley train ride, great travelling companions, etc) and, at the same time, totally relaxed from my stay at Poco Diablo. Who could ask for anything more?

You will be delighted if you pick this program. You'll get an educational perspective of the Grand Canyon, see a cliff dwelling and petroglyphs, and much, much more, always being informed and entertained by knowledgeable staff.

Did not like the Super 8 motel...at all! It was sooooooo noisy with constantly slamming doors and people talking loudly in the hallway. Could easily hear the neighbors TV. The bathroom was the tiniest I have ever seen. The blankets were torn and had holes in them. The thermostat did not work; I set it at 70 and soon the room was at 76 and humid with condensation running down the window. The room felt generally dirty. Loved the activities and people, they were all great. Especially liked the critter lady, the musical duo and Garrett's old west movies demo, as well as the scenic features around the area. The geology professor talked way over my head since I have no background, so it was boring for me. They were very efficient at the Golden Goose restaurant but jammed too many people in too small of a space. My eggs were cold every morning, served with burnt toast and my husband's french toast was too horrible to describe. Everyone else seemed to enjoy the food and gave compliments so it must just be us. We ordered from the regular menu (fruit plate and toast) on the two additional mornings we stay and that was good. So bottom line -- the activities were very good, the accommodations, not good at all.

An absolutely marvelous trip. Garrett is the consummate tour leader - informative, flexible, and fun! We experienced the Grand Canyon and Sedona areas in a variety of ways - and I loved every moment!

Linda from Kingwood, TX Number of programs attended: 1

Great first trip experience. Very well planned and organized. Hope to experience another one sometime in the future.

Joe from Mc Alisterville, PA Number of programs attended: 2

This is a great program. The weather is wonderful and the scenery is outstanding. It is a treat.

Polly from Apex, NC Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 10/06/13 - 10/11/13
I enjoyed seeing all the beautiful rock formations. The train ride through Verde valley was the highlight of the trip. With the government shutdown changes were made to fill in the gaps for the places we could not go. This did cause us to be rushed through the museums. Even with the changes, I would recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys the outdoors.

George from Vienna, VA Number of programs attended: 4
Date attended: 10/06/13 - 10/11/13
This program was very good, but was adversely affected by the shutdown of the National Parks. Road Scholar did an excellent job of making changes on the fly—it substituted a flight over the Grand Canyon for a day in the park, pun intended-- and the trip through the Verde Canyon was great. However, we did not visit Montezuma National Monument; instead visiting Douglas mansion in Jerome, AZ. The lecture by Dr. Stan Beus regarding the geology of the Grand Canyon was fantastic.

Deborah from Kempton, PA Number of programs attended: 10
Date attended: 09/09/13 - 09/14/13
I was a very interesting program. I would reccommend it to any one interested in Geology and animals in Grand Canyon. We learned a lot about the previous peoples who inhabited this area a very long time ago at Montezuma's castle and elsewhere in the Southwest.

Barbara from Janesville, WI Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/22/13 - 09/27/13
Sedona and the Grand Canyon are beautiful beyond words. I was in a new world nothing like my lovely midwest home. I'm so happy to have had this experience!

Evelyn from Easthampton, MA Number of programs attended: 24

I found this to be an excellent program in a fascinating part of the United States, and suggest that anyone who has not experienced the Southwest, consider participating.

Kathy from Greeley, CO Number of programs attended: 4

Wonderful mix of lectures/programs and field trip activities! Professor of Geology Dr. Beus was fantastic in explaining information re: layers, continental drift etc., and then accompanied our group to the Grand Canyon the next day - what a treat! Also enjoyed Chio, learned so much about the Hopi tribe, customs etc - very illustrious woman! And the pet snakes and tarantulas were fascinating - some people held them (not me!) Food great, weather wonderful. Garrett a good humored, knowledgable leader also...who was in the movies and ads! Great class & experience! Also enjoyed the 40 friendly people for the week...Kathy S., Greeley, CO

Beth from Harrisonburg, VA Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 04/29/13 - 05/04/13
I really enjoyed this program and would recommend it to anyone. I was fascinated by the geology of the area as well as the differences in plant speces across the wide variation in altitude in Arizona. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly and we all were both enlightened and entertained. It was fun meeting people from all over the U.S., sharing stories and making new friends. I was travelling alone and felt a part of the group from the beginning of the session to the farewell.

Our recent trip to Sedona was exceptional! Our leader, Garret Roberts was knowledgeable, organized, humourous and a great driver, amongst many other qualities which enhanced the whole experience. The hotel and restaurant were great and the staff at each exceptionally helpful and accommodating. The presenters were top-notch and entertaining and the field trips varied and unique. We had a great time, it was great value and we would recommend this trip to all.

Seeing the Grand Canyon from several different vantage points after learning about the geology and the lives of the indigenous people was one of the highlights of the trip, but there were no low lights. Great leaders, thorough planning, and some of the best people one could ever meet made this trip marvelous, not to mention the overwhelming beauty everywhere we looked.

This is a magnificent trip to Northern Arizona. Who knew it was so beautiful...or so cold? A sunset drive dwon Oak Creek Canyon is worth the cost of the entire trip. And, oh yeah, the Grand Canyon is pretty awesome too.

Donna from Cincinnati, OH Number of programs attended: 1

This was my first Road Scholar trip, first time in Arizona, and first time seeing the Grand Canyon. Some of my colleagues said I was "very brave" to go on a trip in which I meet up with people I don't know. I'm not brave, but I am adventurous! The people with whom I shared this trip were varied, friendly and welcoming. I could not have chosen a better roommate! Thanks Road Scholar! The accommodations were just right and the food was really good. For me, this was just the beginning of many Road Scholar trips to come!

Best of Sedona / Grand Canyon program was an exceptional value. Lecture and tour guide to the Canyon was provided by a world-class professor of geology. His passion for the subject matter and his ease of presentation to our group was truly remarkable. Our group coordinator (Dennis Sigman) acted as gracious host and looked after the group of 35 with lots of TLC. The program included presentations on Hopi culture, wild critters of the Sedona area and an evening of CW tunes presented by a talented couple who loved the music genre. We were encouraged to sing along and we did that. The group of 35 was one of varied professional backgrounds and all had a keen interest in learning more of the wonders of the area. All brought a great sense of discovery and humor to the week's proceedings. Accommodations were very comfortable and the restaurant on the premises provided varied and very good meals with helpful and cordial service. This is truly a winning package and I recommend it highly to all but especially to anyone (like myself) wishes to experience the Grand Canyon for the first time. My first glimpse into the Canyon left me in wonder.
