This was a great program. Jeff is an outstanding coordinator, experienced and always ready to assist in order to meet the needs of individual participants. He's takes excellent pictures too! Larry Lindahl is a creative, knowledgeable and very approachable photographer. They make a great team and to make it even better, both are willing to share their knowledge about the natural environment, the history of the area AND the very best spots to take photos. We loved every minute of the course and can't wait to take our next RS photography course.

Having attended over 100 Elderhostel/Road Scholar programs, I do not hesitate to say NAU programs are one of the best organized and managed programs I have attended. They always have competent Coordinators, experienced Instructors and outstanding facilities. Flagstaff is located in a beautiful part of Arizona and offers so many interesting places to visit. Jeff is an outstanding Coordinator. He is friendly, approachable, shows sincere concern for each participant, well organized, kept the program on schedule, and appears to really enjoy making the week meaningful for everyone. Larry Lindahl is an accomplished photographer and I can now proudly say, “I’ve studied with Larry Lindahl.” He always had time to answer questions whether in the classroom or in the field. I can now look at a photograph from an artistic point of view rather than just a “snapshot.” During the critique sessions, I learned techniques and how to look at a subject from difference angles to improve the composition of a photograph.

The chance to spend five days with (1) three terrific and helpful photographers and (2) 19 very convivial companions was terrific. Thanks to Jeff, Stewart, and Meredith for the guidance. And you get to do this in some of the best scenery in the country!

The Flagstaff photography trip was amazing! The scenery was breath-taking, and I learned so many photographic tips from Stewart Aitchison, our professional photographer. Our leader, Jeff Strang, was awesome...helpful, friendly, and willing to share his incredible knowledge on a variety of subjects. I couldn't have asked for more out of this trip...just wonderful!

This program was excellent. Long days, but alot of instruction and alot of opportunity to take photos. Photos get presented for review, and at the end, each participant does a photo essay. Well organized, with good instruction by the pros. We are already planning another photo program for next year.

Every day was a new adventure. Jeff Strang, our group leader, kept the program running smoothly. The scenery was breathtaking. The photo instructors, Norm Shrewsbury and Ken Walters were experienced photographers. We were able to get some fantastic photographs. Thanks.

I would highly recommend the photography program to Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, Sedona, Sunset Crater and Wupatki National Monument. Learned a lot about my new digital Canon camera and how to use it correctly. Jeff Strang was an amazing leader as was Norm Shrewsbury.

The scenery was beautiful; the accommodations were very comfortable; the staff--especially Jeff Strang, our group leader--was outstanding; the instruction was exceptional; the value for the price was remarkable. This program is a "ten" on a scale of ten!

What a great week. Everything people rave about is true. Location and leaders both exceptional and fun. This workshop attracted active, involved, eager life-longer learners to a deep interest all shared. Good as it gets.

This program is outstanding. Fabulous instructor (Joel Wolfson), wonderful coordinator (Jeff Strang), great and varied locales for photography. All these elements combined to make a fulfilling experience for our entire group.

I thoroughly enjoyed the program. Jeff, the coordinator, was patient, knowledgeable and went out of his way to make sure that all went well for us. His Geology class was not only informative but fun. James Q. Martin was an excellent photography teacher. I especially liked that as we went out on the field he went along with us and was with us to help and answer questions. I would recommend the program. Beautiful place to photograph and good teachers. Al was well planned.

Thoroughly enjoyed this program. This is the third photographic program we had attended but found it the most informative (or possibly I was ready to try and get more serious about learning more). Jeff as Coordinator was friendly and upbeat and everyone felt welcome. James Q Martin as photographer had a wealth of knowledge to offer and was helpful to all at various camera levels. Would definately recommend this program and hope to attend another one by them if offered.

I heartily recommend this program to anyone who is interested in seeing the sights, learning about the technical and artistic aspects of digital photography as well as the geography/geology of the area. Jeff Strang, the coordinator of this trip, has a wealth of information about the area, its history and the culture of the people who have lived here. His presentation on the geology of the canyon was well organized and informative. It provided the necessary information with which to do more than gaze with awe.
James Q. Martin, the photographer who worked with us, provided excellent instruction both in the field and during review sessions. He was able to help me make the transition from point and shoot to being able to implement my technical knowledge about photography with a sense of artistry that I lacked previous to this week. I have been taking pictures since I was in elementary school, but after this week, I believe I will be taking photographs.
The size of the group was small enough so that you could easily get all of the personal attention that you might want from Q and Jeff as well benefit from the knowledge and experience from other participants. The weather was not always cooperative but Jeff and Q were flexible and helped us make the most of what was possible. It was a great experience.
