Program #3328RJ
17 Days | 16 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

The full impact of this programme really only hit me after being home one week. This is really a program for art lovers and people who would like to become art lovers. The guides and Luis all put their heart and soul into making an unforgettable trip for us. The days are jam packed with info - both from lectures and field trips. I have a degree in art history and I also make a little art- so for me, a perfect trip.

As an artist who had previously studied art history, I found this program greatly exceeded my expectations in understanding the origins of Spanish art in the context of Spanish history as well as world history. Seeing the multiplicity of works made the program amazing.

This program far exceeded our expectations in every way. The hotels were comfortable, the lectures stimulating, the choice of activities excellent, the variety of experiences fabulous. Our hearts and minds were opened to art history and appreciation thanks to the excellent variety of information. Who knew that we would actually begin to love Picasso! The Program Guide kept everything organized and we felt cared for and about. Spain is a beautiful country - and thanks to the friendships we developed with other participants, this will be a trip long remembered as a highlight of our lives.

Excellent tour for people interested in the culture and artists of Spain. Our tour leader, Rikardo, and lecturer Cecillia could not have been better - friendly, knowledgeable, well organized, warm and eager to please. The hotels were all well located. Cuenca was a wonderful surprise - I enjoyed it so much more than I anticipated. This was my first trip with Road Scholar, and it exceeded my expectations.

A fabulous trip! Cuenca was a revelation, and the Guggenheim Bibao exceeded my high expectations. The Joan Miro Foundation is an architectural masterpiece housing a plethora of Miro masterpieces. Parc Guell was fascinating--an early and daring attempt to build an English Garden community in Spain. My only quibble is that too many events were packed into the day that we flew from Bilbao to Barcelona.

This is a superb trip if you are interested in art and architecture. We had a superb instructor in Msdrid and Cuenca. Her love for art was quite evident. One suggestion: Where possible, lecture in the afternoon before and visit museum/site the following morning. The pacing was good; number of nights in one place worked well. In Barcelona, I would have preferred to visit Gaudi's Familia Sagrada in addition to the park or in place of the park.

My wife and I have attended 23 Road Scholar\Elderhostel programs both in the United States and Canada as well as other countries. This program on the art and architecture of Spain is at the top or near top of all of them.

What a fabulous trip. It was interesting and informative. The sights were great. The insights about Spain's great painters was terrific. The hotels were central and convenient. It led to great and interesting walks. I highly recommend it.

We came together on agreeing the tour exceeded our expectations. Not to reiterate, but we agree with what's been said. Also, we would have loved a second night in Bilbao. I can add- Thank you, to all. The group of 30 were people of extraordinary backgrounds and good will- which certainly played a part our tremendous success.

We enjoyed this program and got to see some fabulous things in Spain, some we were hoping to see and some we had no idea about ...like beautiful Cuenca! We did feel the lectures were over long, however, and much as we loved Cuenca we would have liked one less night there and at least 2 nights in Bilbao. Otherwise the program organizer was great and the local guides were wonderful.

One surprise, street theatre everywhere!

This adventure through hundreds of years of Spanish Art and Architecture was just terrific. There is no way that I could have planned such comprehensive trip on my own. This was my first experience in Spain and was more than pleased with the locations, hotels, sites, restaurants and cities chosen. The lecturees and guides were so knowlegeable and helpful which made the journey more than I expected.

This program revealed Spanish art and architecture in a depth and richness I had not anticipated. Never have two weeks plus gone faster. Our companions were a varied and interesting group who enriched the experience.
