The tour "Spanish old and modern Masters" presented a well thought out program and great enrichment to participants. As an art lover hitting all the right museums: Prado, Reina Sofia, Thyssen-Bornemisza, Guggenheim Bilbao, Dali and Picasso museums and Miro Foundation, felt as if I had landed in "art" heaven. The pace was brisk. Sometimes it felt we walked more than 2 miles per day to and from museums and palaces, through exhibitions as well as walks to and from restaurants. And count on stairs, lots of them. My advice: gear up for this wonderful experience with physical and scholastic exercise. Frauke de Looper

This was our first Road Scholar trip and we had a great time. We learned a lot about artists we already loved, and gained an appreciation for artists we had not paid attention to before. Each of the cities visited were fascinating and lovely to walk around. There is also a lot of great architecture in Spain! Our highlights were the Prado in Madrid; the Guggenheim in Bilbao (Richard Serra's works and the building); Gaudi(astounding!), Picasso, and Miro in Barcelona; and Dali in Figueres (we love him even more now). We are already planning our next trip back to Spain. Our tour group contained very smart, funny, and warm hearted people who were a joy to travel with. A tip for vegetarians - you will eat a lot of grilled vegetables, salads, and risotto. So take protein powder with you (most hotels had soy milk available) and buy protein bars and nuts for snacks. There were so many wonderful places and people, it is hard to summarize the experience. We look forward to future Road Scholar trips.

A wonderful program for art lovers. Interesting locations -- cities, small towns, a winery, a posada, and more. Be prepared for lots of walking and standing, steps and cobblestones. Very enjoyable.

This trip was a dream come true for me. Art? Yes! Spain? Yes! And including Barcelona? That clinched it for me! We saw so much, learned so much, enjoyed food so much--frankly I didn't want to leave Spain.

This trip exceeded our expectations. Spain's terrain and seeing the Basque and Catalonia areas thrilled us. Driving into Toledo offered dramatic landscapes that took our breaths away and brought El Greco to life. Cuenca was romantic and picturesque. The posada we stayed in delightful. The guide was so cute and helpful and treated us to Spanish candy and liqueur from his gift shop. We loved it. Two days there would be wonderful. The Jewish centers in Toledo and Cuenca made the trip even more enjoyable. We're not Jewish, but thanks. The biggest superlative goes to our ebullient, knowledgeable, and helpful young guide, Sonia. Thank you for all you did to help everyone enjoy the trip, Sonia. My favorite places were the Dali museum, the Guggenheim in Bilbao and the Marquis de Riscal vineyards with the magnificent Gehry floating above them. My husband's was the interior of the Gaudi. The food and wine were so plentiful and delicious that we gained weight we are now working to shed. How romantic the meals all seemed. We took this trip because two friends recommended the fabulous guides: Cecilia, Jose and Silvia. Thanks for the informative history and art lectures and for taking us to Escorial. The only boring times were spent in cathedrals that just didn't seem that exciting. Having to traipse through them must be de rigueur for European trips but a couple go a long way. Otherwise it was perfect.

Inspired by the dynamic trio: Sonia, Cecilia, and Silvia -- full of knowledge, enthusiasm, and motivation to make the trip terrific. Cuenca and the Rioja winery were delightful surprises.

A great tour: The tourguide, Sonia, is a treasure. The lectures were uniformly wonderful. One couldn't possibly visit all the major museums of Spain with such ease independently. The Zaragoza and Chillida visits were a waste of time but there were many other unexpected surprises and delights. Cuenca was a highlight, no doubt. But...vegetarians beware. Spain has no understanding or sympathy. White bread and iceberg lettuce. Pack lots of nuts and protein powder.

These comments are confidential and not for posting. You decide. I would have liked to forgo the visit to the Escorial. The visit to Burgos was a disappointment for me. the knowledge of the guide was limited. The Cathedral was just plain large and overdecorated. The city itself had alot to see. I would have enjoyed spending more time just walking around.

The full impact of this programme really only hit me after being home one week. This is really a program for art lovers and people who would like to become art lovers. The guides and Luis all put their heart and soul into making an unforgettable trip for us. The days are jam packed with info - both from lectures and field trips. I have a degree in art history and I also make a little art- so for me, a perfect trip.

As an artist who had previously studied art history, I found this program greatly exceeded my expectations in understanding the origins of Spanish art in the context of Spanish history as well as world history. Seeing the multiplicity of works made the program amazing.

This program far exceeded our expectations in every way. The hotels were comfortable, the lectures stimulating, the choice of activities excellent, the variety of experiences fabulous. Our hearts and minds were opened to art history and appreciation thanks to the excellent variety of information. Who knew that we would actually begin to love Picasso! The Program Guide kept everything organized and we felt cared for and about. Spain is a beautiful country - and thanks to the friendships we developed with other participants, this will be a trip long remembered as a highlight of our lives.
