Road Scholar
Program #18212RJ
17 Days | 16 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

I second Robert from Lebanon below. We loved the trip, which was truly eye-opening. You do have to be fit to walk the pavements as described. And Erice really is chilly!

A Road Scholar sponsored trip to Sicily is essential & very rewarding in understanding the continuum of human history from ancient times to the present particularly its birth in the Mediterranian basin. The scenery is awe-inspiring & the weather perfect. I highly recommend it. From someone who has visited 60+ countries on 7 continents !

Sicily is full of delightful surprises - from the tropical eastern coast of Giardini-Naxos across the island with its beautiful agricultural fields and vineyards - to Palermo. The mosaics that we saw are some of the most beautiful in all of Italy. Our guide, Enrico, was the best. A really well- organized program. Thanks so much.

I find the Road Scholar website to be organized in such a way that it is easy to get to the "location" that is of interest to me, and once there, it has all the information I need.

Program outlines the many groups that spent some time in Sicily and the contribution they made to Sicilian arts and culture. Wonderful oratorios, churches, ancient temples and ruins

Ah Sicily! Having been in Rome, Florence and Venice in April 2011, I was encouraged by the leader, Dominico Nucci, to visit Sicily where his brother has been leading groups for 14 years. I liked Dominico so much because of his being half American that I though, why not? Enrico Nucci was terrific. Great sense of humor, very patient and kind to all and above all, knowledgable in all things Sicilian! I really did not know much about Sicily prior to the trip so this visit has taught me a lot. The small book on the suggested reading list, "Sicily, an illustrated history" was very helpful preparation. Now I want to go to Turkey for 16 nights! Fellow travelers are the best commercials for Road Scholar trips!

What a special treat was Sicily! I dreamed of travelling to that part of Magna Graecia for some years. The island is magical: the blend of exquisite landscape, from lush hillsides to the stark blackness of Aetna, to the turquoise sea, the silver green of olive trees, the magnificent byzantine cathedrals with arabesques, the playful Sicilian baroque, the ancient Greek theaters and imposing doric temples, to the great pasta, the Nero D'Avola wine, the luscious gelato, the wonderful agriturismo lunches, Nora's yummy pasta....I am in love with Sicilia! I wish we had more of it... the tour escort was wonderful, the lectures enlightening, the hotels lovely, the people delightful! Bravo Road Scholar!

The "Treasures Of Sicily" exceeded all of my expectations. Road Scholar did everything they could to set up a successful experience, the guide was passionate, the teachers were knowledgable, the accommodations were first class, visits and meals at homes and farms were welcoming and beyond delicious. It was my first trip with Road Scholar, but, definitely, not my last.
