My first Road Scholar trip 10/7-10/12, 2012 - FANTASTIC! Wondered whether I was up to the biking challenge, but made it... & LOVED it. Met new friends & seems we all had a grand time! Foliage in most areas still at peak as we pedaled by to take in the area's beauty. 'Paradise' indeed a fitting term. Many fond memories of the stops we made at little museums, french pastry and chocolate shops, quaint villages, roadside stories, etc. etc. Outdoor Lodge staff were the BEST - Joy and Stephen, Niels, kitchen staff, etc. Gourmet-class fare with fresh, home-prepared delights, & charmingly-served. Outdoor Lodge ambience warm and welcoming, & to me, the perfect setting. Engaging & entertaining evening learning (& performance by talented staff-member Jeanette - THANK YOU). Cannot say enough about this trip. It's evident that Stephen and Joy love what they do at the Outdoor Lodge, striving to make each guest's experience fun and memorable. Sure worked for me!! :-)

We did this trip on Oct 7, 2012 at the height of the leaf season and it was spectacular. We saw wonderful scenery as we rode the rolling hills of Vermont and southern Quebec. Every meal was a treat with special home cooking and fresh vegetables. Steven and Joy went out of their way to make our stay comfortable and pleasant.

We had a wonderful time on this trip. There was nice weather all week and good fellowship among all the participants. Stephen and Joy were the ideal hosts with their friend Ludger helping us all along the roads. Meals, bag lunches, and snacks were top notch. Some of our little "side trips" will induce memories enough until we can return to the little valley of paradise which is Glen Sutton.

Listening to opera as we ride through the trees and up the hills to the starting point...long vistas, winding roads, rivers, lakes, covered bridges, J mountain; feeding apple bites to those little donkeys with the cross on their back; Mystic chocolate shop; ice cider, the bakery--we grab up the cinnamon rolls; picnics at wineries; flying down hills when they are short and the road climbs ahead; pumping up hills and sometimes walking part of them; braking down the big hill where there does not seem to be a bottom; comraderie in the van, on the road, at the lodge in the morning and at night...pitch dark walk up the hill to the little church where Ginette sings and plays piano; good French coffee in the morning; steel cut oatmeal with fresh berries and maple syrup... The hosts are smart and creative and real and funny..as good leaders, they know how to hire and keep just the right staff...as good leaders, they take people where they're at and facilitate new experiences My recommendation: a reunion!

Great program. Great hosts. Great biking. Great weather. Great accommodations. Great food.
This was my first Road Scholar trip and it was well planned and executed by thoughtful, knowledgeable inspiring hosts. The locale was superb for biking and the trips were balanced, interesting and adjustable for a range of biking expertise. The food was healthy but still quite delicious and the rooms comfortable and beautifully appointed. My sister and I went together for healthy R&R and it met and far exceeded all my expectations. It was a great trip!

Day Trip to Paradise – what an apt name for this program! Hosts Stephen and Joy are unstinting in their efforts to offer a variety of cycling experiences in the Eastern Townships. Transporting our bikes and us to the top of significant hills to start our day with a glide down; those were super fun! These two really know how to sell the “love of cycling” to us participants. Vermont and Quebec jaunts, nicely complimented each other. There is a balance of cycling (flatlands and hills) and opportunities to stop at local spots of interest enroute. The maps provided daily allowed cyclists to “ride at their own pace” and the “sag wagon” crew met us at meeting points. Optional “add on” distances extended the rides for those up for that challenge. Our rooms were superb (uniquely restored and tastefully decorated), wholesome meals prepared on site were delicious; languishing on the deck outside or in the homey sitting area inside after the rides was delightful. Of the three Road Scholar programs, I’ve attended, this one is tops in my books! Thank you Stephen, Joy and staff.

Just back from Quebec and Vermont. Crossed the border so often I got to know the border agents. It may not have been paradise, but it was close. Every meal was excellent and locally sourced. My room, actually more a suite, in a building a short walk from the main lodge, included a balcony, a swimming pool, and views of the river and the mountains. Rolling backroads, long flats, an occasional nasty climb, and some opportunities to go screaming downhill at Tour de France speeds- well almost. I have been on several bike trips with well known commercial outfitters, and enjoyed them all, but for value, they pale behind this trip. C'est magnifique Lanny from Syracuse, NY

Bienvenue. My first Road Scholar adventure has set a high bar for future programs. This was a perfect fall vacation... Biking the beautiful countryside around Glen Sutton and in northern VT was challenging and glorious. Joy and Stephen were fascinating hosts and their warm spirited staff made us all feel right at home. Every night we returned to Glen Sutton to comfortable accommodations, delicious food, and the wonderful company of our new road scholar friends...a lovely lovey week!

What a fun trip this was! Great views, wonderful hosts, the BEST FOOD & lodging. We loved it! A trip to remember. Hosts made sure we were happy with the routes we took each day. Equipment was in great working order. Never felt abandoned on any trip. Highly recommend this trip!

This was my first experience on a Road Scholars trip, and it was a delight from beginning to end. The inn was cozy, comfy and charming. Our hosts, Stephen & Joy, and their amazing staff were attentive and made sure that we were engaged and well taken care of at every moment. The rides were fantastic…beautiful scenery and well designed. Thank you for starting us at the top of many a hill, Stephen! The gourmet meals were the perfect reward after an exhilarating day of riding. Being greeted by the aromas emanating from the kitchen every day when we returned from our rides was a treat for the senses, and a tantalizing hint of the delicious repast awaiting us. The evening activities were varied, interesting and fun. The participants were diverse, yet bonded so well. The camaraderie was terrific. While we came from very different backgrounds and geographic areas, and returned to same at the end, for those 5 days we became like family. I highly recommend this trip. For me, I hope it was just the first of many wonderful experiences I will have on future excursions with Road Scholars

This program is a bit more strenuous than I expected from the description, but a lot of the participants took it in stride, and several opted for additional miles after completing the scheduled trip. There are hills. The host couple are interesting, knowledgeable people who took very good care of us. The food is really excellent--sophisticated and well prepared. The bag lunches are unusually good for that sort of thing--imaginative sandwiches on really good whole-grain bread.

This was a terrific vacation. The location is beautiful, the food was wonderful, and the biking was inspirational. Stephen and Joy knocked themselves out for us, and they were great hosts. We learned something about the history of Quebec along with good biking tips. I highly recommend this program for anyone who likes to bike through beautiful scenery.

It will be difficult to top this cycling trip, so ably organized by Joy and Stephan. The day trips were easily adapted to all levels of ability and energy. The terrain was varied and the scenery fantastic. Each trip had unique and interesting stops. The success of this trip is totally due to the congeniality of our hosts and their competent staff. All meals were savory and artistically presented. The highlight of the evening entertainment was a musical presentation by one of the staff, Ginette St. Andre. Other activities such as tennis and swimming were also available. This was an amazing introduction to my Road Scholar experiences. My only fear is that future trips may not be able to meet the precedent set by Joy and Stephan.

This was the first road scholar program I attended and it was a complete vacation. I did more biking than I do at home but I did a few bike trips before I went to Quebec and was pleased that I was comfortable doing all of the biking once I got there. The people, staff and participants, were endlessly interesting. The food was great and we had prepared sandwiches to take on our bikes with us for lunch. The extremely rural Eastern Townships of Quebec and rural Northern Vermont were beautiful and many roads were practically without cars. Our host and hostess were a combination of helpful and enabling, that is, they ensured our safety but also pushed through whatever problems we might have had to ensure we all were active participants in each part of the program.

Fantastic! This experience was everything my husband and I hoped for and much more. The Outdoor Center's directors Joy and Stephen and all their staff are truly exceptional. We were provided with support for every aspect of the daily biking trips, enjoyed the incredible beauty of the countryside and creative planning of each day, savored the delicious food and appreciated the sensitivity to special dietary needs, relaxed in beautiful and comfortable accommodations, enjoyed the terrific group interaction ... I could go on and on. As I said to Stephen while biking in the sunlight on our way to the French chocolate shop, "This is like a fairy tale" and I was not exaggerating. Day Trips to Paradise is the proper name for this adventure... don't miss it!

This was my first Road Scholar trip and the bar has been set at its highest. Everything about this supported biking trip was excellent: the wonderful lodge, fantastic staff, the spectacular routes, the evening activities (especially the extraordinarily talented Ginette's singing and piano-playing), and the lively and fun exchanges with fellow adventurers.
The food is exceptionally delicious and varied with a special effort made to accommodate the dietary requirements of some of us.
The host and hostess don't get any better than Joy and Stephen. I can't recommend this trip highly enough.

This was one of those programs where everything was just right. The area and lodge were beautiful, the hosts and their assistants were helpful and fun, the other participants friendly and interesting and oh my--the food was fantastic. I'm not an experienced biker and was concerned about being able to keep up. This didn't turn out to be a problem, as all levels of ability were accomodated. They didn't even laugh at me when I had to walk the bike up the rest of the hill! It was just a terrific experience. I can't wait to go back and try cross country skiing.

Great trip--- fantastic food, outstanding accommodations, wonderful biking in beautiful country. Hosts were great and their staff were outstanding......very helpful and attentive to your needs. Well planned and good organization for each of the rides as well as overall program....You don't have to be some super biker to do the rides as they can be adjusted to accommodate your skill level and ability...........Would do another program with these hosts and their staff at this location........Great time.................Tom
