EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

A well-led, informative, and enjoyable program. The educational value was high. The physical level was accurately stated. The leader, instructor, driver and spouse have put a lot of thought and effort into the program. Lots of natural history well presented. Accommodations: Furnace Creek Ranch was convenient. Alexis Park? Next time I fly to Las Vegas, I hope we land on a different runway so I don't even have to see it out the window.

Really enjoyed our just completed week in Death Valley. Darrel is amazingly knowledgeable in so many natural science fields. Paula and bus driver Paul were also very helpful with questions about our surroundings. I agree with Don about the Alexis Park. Our bed was so bad that we pulled out the folding sofa bed for sleeping. Pat

Death Valley and the Valley of Fire, Program #7608, January-February 2013. The instructor, Darrell McMahon was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and very entertaining. The Alexis Park Resort was mediocre. It is also on the Las Vegas airport flight path so it is quite noisy. We had problems with the TV and the internet, and the resort staff was not very helpful. The Furnace Creek Ranch accommodations were very good. Darrell and his wife, Paula, were a really fine team in delivering the program. Don

..highly challenging, well managed program. Met all my expectations. I learned a lot from participating members; each one highly experienced traveler. After seven years of continuous rehabilitation as an Iraqi veteran I found this program to be the best medicine! I felt better everyday.

What a great event! Death Valley is really alive. It's decptive because at first glance you think there's nothing to see but just wait until you hike some of those slot canyons and walk down Gowar Gulch. It'll broaden your mind and help shrink your waist! martha January 2013

The program through Death Valley and the Valley of Fire were outstanding. The guides' love of nature came shining through. It was a pleasure being around their enthusiasm . The program was very informative. Enjoyed being outside most of the day.

11/5-10. 2nd RS trip. Loved the trip. So lucky we got to see the 20 Mule Team. Mountains, valley, salt, sand, canyons and Vegas too. We had very hot weather and cool weather but no matter, the trip was fantastic. I love Road Scholar, you get what you pay for, never a disappointment. Joyce from Boston

11/5-10, 2012 Just returned. If you are an advanced or fast paced hiker you will love this trip. If you want to enjoy the scenery while hiking you will be the last one to reach the destination. Weather was unusually hot 90 degrees plus. Guide was humorous, very informative and knowledgeable. Furnace Creek Ranch was quite comfortable with a few choices of dining. Bring 2 walking sticks, this item is very important. You will be walkin IN sand and on rocks most of the time.
