This program was the 1st for me and my sister. We thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Bonclarken Lodge, the lectures of history on the Biltmore and the Asheville area, and the bus trips to see the buildings and historical areas talked about in the lectures. Our group leader was wonderful and she took care of every little detail to make this program so enjoyable. The lecturers made the topics really interesting and come alive in todays world. After this, I plan to make other Road Scholar trips in the near future.

The program exceeded the expectation of both I and my wife. It was a wonderful adventure to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary.

If you have an interest in how the upper 1 percent lived at the end of the nineteenth century, this program will show you the opulence and grandeur that the wealthy enjoyed. A concentration of so much wealth in one place is staggering.

The Biltmore experience was delightfully presented offering an informed view of an American icon in the special Christmas season.

The Vanderbilt Asheville tour was outstanding. Our leader, Jane, was great and we met many interesting and nice people from all over the US. Loved it!

This was my first experience as a Road Scholar and didn't know quite what to expect. The Biltmore Estate is gorgeous at Christmastime, and the city of Asheville was beautiful, interesting and welcoming. As well as the Biltmore, I especially enjoyed the Thomas Wolfe Museum, Grove Park Inn, and the shops in the city. The lecturers and Jane were very knowledgable and upbeat and made you feel as if your were in that time period. My sister, friend and I are looking forward to our next trip.

Overall, this was one of the better programs we have attended. The Biltmore is an awesome place and they have done a great job presenting it to the public. The other sites we visited were worthwhile as well. Things I liked: 1. Scheduling and pacing of the activities. 2. The group leader, Jane, was very helpful, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic. 3. Accommodations were comfortable and food served at the YMCA site was what I expected for Road Scholar programs. Things which could be better: 1. Make it clear that we could spend the entire day at the house and skip the winery if we wanted. This might require rearrangement of lunch on that day. 2. Revise the driving directions to the YMCA site. One of the landmarks was not readily visible from the road.

A wonderful introduction to Asheville and the area as well as an opportunity to see a beautiful Estate that is a national treasure of an era gone by.

This is a diverse program that gives a good feel for some aspects of Asheville - the vibrant downtown, the opulence of the Biltmore Estate and Winery, some of the local art scene, and bits and pieces of the natural area. I walked away realizing that Asheville has a huge arts community - both formal and informal - and that it is a "foodie" destination. Unfortunately, this was not reflected in the food we were served where we slept. Fortunately, we were able to enjoy a couple of wonderful meals off site that tempted some of us to plan to return to Asheville on our own. Jane, the group leader, is exceptional and treats you like an adult - which includes giving you the flexibility to substitute activities based on your personal tastes (going on a hike on the beautiful grounds instead of listening to a speaker, for instance). Jane is calm, unflappable, and has a great sense of humor for someone who has to keep over 40 people happy 24x7! She provided us a nice balance of free time and activities. Over meals and group free time, I enjoyed meeting a variety of fellow attendees - who provided a true reflection of the diversity of (mostly) the United States. Jane is an organizational machine with a wonderful Southern composure, who will be sure to make this a great Road Scholar experience for you. One speaker said we would want to return to Asheville and I agree that one taste was not enough!

In our earlier stay at The Cove, Billy Graham Training Center, we learned about our future mansion in heaven, and The Biltmore gave us a glimpse of how magnificent that may be. Thrilling that The Biltmore is a private home and contributes so much to the community.

Road Scholar programs are very good programs. They are well organized and well executed. Most of the people on the program are very friendly and very helpful. They are worth the money.
