Combination of birding and Maya sites with very knowledgeable Maya guide Emilio and Birding guide Alberto made this trip very educational and enjoyable for me. Highly recommend for birders and history enthusiast.

Alberto was one of the very best bird-guides I have encountered. He was patient and an ultimate teacher of how to find and identify the 'quarry'.

The birding portion of the program exceeded my expectations greatly. Our guide, Alberto, was extremely knowledgeable and helpful.

We visited 5 Mexican states, saw Mayan ruins daily and also saw almost 200 species of birds! All this with charming and interesting fellow travelers and an amazing set of leaders. This was my first Road Scholar trip and I loved it.

Great combination of BIRDING and MAYA site visits. I added over 100 birds to my Life List (still compiling list) and overcame (read "ignored") my fear of falling by climbing to the top of all possible Maya temples that we visited--then being rewarded by stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

The diversification between Mexican birds and Mayan ruins lend itself to a knowledgeable and interesting trip on both fronts. You won't be bored!

This was a fabulous trip.Eight Mayan ruin sites. Two charming and expert guides (birds and Mayan culture). Still counting the number of bird species and lifers.

You are going to like this program! If you are a "birder" you will love this program. But the ruins alone are worth the trip. The guides are knowledgable, friendly and helpful and make your visit a great experience.

This trip is perhaps a bit more challenging than one might expect. Long van rides and variable accommodations and food but definitely worth the experience. Requires ability to climb steep steps at many ruins to fully appreciate the archeology and history. Not for poor walkers. Birding is excellent as is guide Alex. Note that on arrival in Cancun if traveling independently look for green van from hotel which may typically meet flights from U.S. - getting phone card to call hotel is a hassle. Taxi fare is about $50 and distance to hotel considerable (hotel locator map is not to scale).
