See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

We've been home for over a month but still can't stop talking about this exciting adventure. We learned so much about the animals, people, history, geology, and culture of East Africa. Our leader had us on the go constantly, and our guides/drivers filled us with information about all the animals and plants we encountered . . . and there were PLENTY! A word of advice: pack lightly. There's not a lot of room for baggage in the vehicles when traveling from one site to another. And the lodges provide laundry service for a reasonable fee.

My trip was 110 % great. Everything was wonderful, the food, acommodations, the guides were excellent. The guides were exceptionally knowledgeable. The drivers knew where to go to find the animals such as the lion that was found on a kill. We came back later to find this lion resting for a wonderful photo opportunity. I highly recommend Road Scholars travel programs. My sad experience however was returning to JFK airport and my luggage was stolen which included my photos. If anyone could share some of their photos with me I'd be most grateful. Ken James

This trip far exceeded my expectations as far as seeing quite a diversity of wildlife, sometimes up close and personal, on the numerous game drives. We also saw a couple of kills by big cats and male elephants fighting over a female. Many babies, especially elephants. Our tour leader was quite knowledgable, responsive, enjoyable, and efficient in getting the job done. I also enjoyed learning about the Maasi tribal culture and visiting a village. The elephant orphanage and giraffe sanctuary were great additions. The accommodations in all the locations were comfortable and safe with good food. Just don't expect 24 hour electricity and hot water due to use of generators. Also be aware of the long, bumpy rides between national parks and on the game drives. It just goes with the territory. I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to see the wildlife of Africa.

This was an outstanding and exciting tour. Even the people in our group were reflective of the type who would enjoy this type of tour - open, adventurous, friendly. I think you were too restrictive in clothing recommendations - any color and pattern will do, though I would avoid black and bright blue. There are umbrellas in every room, so no need to bring one. Also, be aware that hot water and electricity are off most of the time, including all night so be sure to bring a good flashlight.

Marilouise from Minneapolis, MN Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 10/04/11 - 10/18/11
This was truly a quality program and exceeded any of my expectations. The group leader and primary lecturer was so knowledgeable about Kenya, Tanzania, the animals, and all of what we were experiencing. He also made sure that all aspects of the program ran as expected. Our drivers were the best. They not only spotted wildlife, sometimes at a remarkable distance, but then were able to talk about the behavior of the wildlife. I learned so much not only about wildlife but also about the history of the countries, current situations and cultural background.
I would recommend this program to anyone. It was an experience of a lifetime.

The Kenya/Tanzania Safari was a highlight of my life, fulfilling a lifetime dream to travel to Africa. The variety and number of animals we saw were phenonominal! However, we humans must remember this is their world and treat with respect and with the minimal amount of traumatization.

Our leader, Phillip Rono, was the best! Incredibly knowledgable and had an answer to any & every question.

The vans in Kenya was too small, and totally inadequate! Hopefully, RS will correct that!
