Prague is a beautiful city. This was my first Road Scholar program and I highly recommend it to anyone interested to learn about its history, architecture and culture from great local lecturers and tour guides. I am looking forward to my next Road Scholar trip.

This art adventure was particularly special to me as an artist and also to have my NYer art historian daughter join us! The lectures were smart and provocative; and as an example, the guided tours on site that followed reexplained not just the differences in the architectural styles of romanesque, gothic, renaissance etc.,but the political changes and people of those times. Music was another strong component. Prague is magical in place & people, and I don't think I'll ever truly leave it. (R.S. permitted in reception rooms of Municipal House - huge treat!)

This was our first Road Scholar program. We loved it, and will continue to use Road Scholar to visit our bucket list. The staff and lecturers were helpful and knowledgeable in meeting the goal of the program - introduction to the art and architecture of Prague, and then allowing independent time to use the knowledge gained. Tomas and his staff provided comfortable accommodations, and a real home base from which to spend our time. Theresa, our week long program guide, was able to meet the needs of our diverse 15 member group. Anyone taking this trip will not be disappointed.

This Prague trip exceeded my expectations in so many ways. It was well organized, offering just the right amount of education, adventure, time to explore on your own, and time to be with the group of 22 people. ROAD Scholars director, staff and lecturers were very impressive, informative. and delightful to interact with. Margaret, our week long guide, certainly made the trip worth while and enjoyable, sharing her knowledge and expertise willingly and with enthusiasm. Price, travel arrangements, hotel, side trips, and suggestions for free time activities were all reasonable and met most of our needs. I would recommend ROAD Scholars trips if this is any indication of how they all are.

Independent Prague was great in every way. The hotel we stayed at was lovely and quiet - Thomas was helpful and accommodating. The guides and teachers were well informed about art, architecture and music. Our guide Margaret did a wonderful job of escorting us around the city. I really felt like I knew Prague well by the end of the trip. Prague is must see place that should be on everyone's list and The Road Scholar trip is a great way to see it. Also, when my travel companion developed a health problem, we were well cared for.

Independent Prague: Architecture and the Arts Program 9952, March 7-15, 2015 This program was fantastic! Just the right mix of lectures and guided tours with plenty of independent time to explore further specific places of interest. I added on a guided trip to Terezin, the "showplace" concentration camp that is about 65 kilometers from Prague. The guide was absolutely perfect with personal stories to supplement the history of the camp and make our experience very special. I recommend this highly to anyone and everyone. Prague is a place that you should visit and this Road Scholar trip is a perfect way to do it.

THe Prague Independent program was all I had expected and more. THere was such a sense of freedom in exploring a new and very beautiful city. THere was just enough help and just enough open time. I'd like to double this trip (not at one time), there is so much to explore in Prague.

Super value, hotel in a very good location, convenient to transportation to center, even within walking distance, yet not a tourist area. Hotel spotless and entire staff worked to assure we had a good experience. Prague itself is a gem of a city, replete with interesting architecture, cultural events and great food. Our host Tomas gave great advice about places to eat and places to see and accompanied us to show us how easy public transport was. And, yes, we "over seventy" people can travel free on public transport. Great program.

The Prague Program allowed me to learn about an area of Europe I knew very little about. This program exceeded my expectations in every way---instructors, hotel, information and hotel. Thank you for this opportunity.

Independent Prague is an excellent program of exceptional value. The program staff helps us be self sufficient as we travel trams, subways and funiculars for free after the age of 70. Prague is still beautiful and inexpensive--quite a value.

This program has the best of both worlds: guidance and opportunity to explore on your own. A very walkable and beautiful city.

This is one of the best trips we have ever taken. The city is fabulous and filled with innumerable options for a wide variety of interests. We cannot imagine a better host than Tomas who provided superb customer service as well as sharing his knowledge and personal reflections on life in Prague. It was optimal to have a full week with a balance of planned activities and free time to explore.

Independent Prague was our first Road Scholar trip and has raised the bar for future trips very high! The lectures provided a great base for our independent trips. The varied lecturers, to a one, came with enormous expertise, engaging personalities and compelling personal stories. Tomas, the local director, was as personable as he was organized and professional. A truly rewarding week.

Independent Prague is a great program for first timers as well as seasoned participants of the Road Scholars program. The lectures were outstanding, delivered by knowledgeable and engaged individuals, who provided a wealth of information for group as well as individual outings. In addition to the lectures and group trips there are plenty of opportunities for evening concerts and the opera. Participants in our group also participated in a trip to Terezin arranged by the program staff.

The Independent Study Program for Prague was a great introduction to Prague. The program material was valuable and the instructors were interesting, knowledgeable and provided information which was pertinent to making our time in Prague that much more enjoyable. The group size made for wonderful interactions between couples and solo travelers. The program management went out of their way to ensure that all participants had a great time. I highly recommend this program.

This was my first Road Scholar program, and it was the best. Other people who had been on several trips said the same thing. As a solo traveler, I was very comfortable. Lectures and tours were professionally given but with a personal touch. Prague is an amazing city. There was ample free time to explore on your own. I would highly recommend this program!

Don't miss this exceptional program! Of the 17 I have taken with RS, this one is, all things considered, the BEST. Prague is a treasure trove of glorious architecture, art, and really excellent concerts. The Hotel Petr is very nice-clean and comfortable, with large breakfasts and a pleasant and accommodating staff. But a review would not be complete without kudos to the hotel's owner, and program organizer, Tomas Brychta. Tomas, his wife Michaela, and optional excursions assistant Jan Petracek, did everything possible to insure that our experiences in Prague were everything we could wish for. They succeeded admirably!! Joan--Philadelphia... 4/01-4/1214

This was my favorite program. The family operated hotel and program helped things run smoothly. The staff was very accommodating, especially on organizing in-prompt trips. Being able to reserve concert tickets ahead-of-time, purchase tram tickets and change money at the hotel was helpful. The amount of lectures and free-time was perfectly balanced to give you some insight into the city and culture with time to experience things on your own. Prague has a lot to offer! My mother accompanied me at the age of 86 & did just fine. Congrats mom to the successful completion of your 45th Elderhostel/Road Scholar trip!

The Independent Prague: Architecture and the Arts was my first experience with Road Scholar. I was extremely pleased with the experience and will most certainly sign up again in the future. I had never been to any part of Europe before so this was a wonderful introduction to a beautiful city with incredibly rich history, culture, and sights. The lectures enhanced the experience and guided our focus to points and places we might have missed otherwise. It was fascinating to hear the perspectives of those who have lived through some very difficult political struggles, especially with all that is going on currently in nearby countries. There was plenty of time to explore on your own in addition to well directed guided tours. Public transportation gets you around, once you figure out the system and an initial intro experience is provided with the group/tour leader. Otherwise, we walked a great deal, but even at night we (two women) felt perfectly safe. Many locals also speak English and are helpful with assistance. I recommend the program highly and without reservation!

This was a very good program with a great balance of lectures, field trips and free time to explore Prague. The March climate turned out to be very pleasant. Micha, our group leader, was superb. The Hotel Petr was good, quiet and at a good location near street cars, restaurants, pubs, etc. The Czech lager should not be missed. For all art lovers this tour is a must!

This, my first, trip with Road Scholar has me ready to come back for more. The planning and preliminary info packets were excellent. The Petr Hotel was great. Comfortable, clean, and well-run with a competent, friendly staff. The hotel is located on a quiet tree-lined street that is within walking distance of the main attractions and close to tram and subway stubs - very convenient. Tomas Brychta, the hotel owner and trip leader was outstanding and as someone else stated, unmatched as a host. No question or request was too large or too small to be dealt with in a timely fashion. The lectures and tours were interesting, educational, and fun. Exploring Prague during the independent afternoons is easy and fun. I definitely recommend this trip.

This was, by far, one of the best tour travel experiences. The hotel was superb and Tomas is unmatched as a host, organizer, and hotelier. Extras were the norm on this trip. Questions were answered almost immediately and individual arrangements were made easily. The rooms had a European flavor and the hotel was immaculate. Lectures were informative each morning and prepared us to enter the world of Prague. The hotel was located in a quiet neighborhood but was easily accessible to the trams and metro. The city is enchanting! It is managed easily but watch out for slippery cobblestones in bad weather. Concerts abound for music lovers. Night life is colorful and the crowds were tolerable. I would have absolutely no reservations about touring with Road Scholar in the future. Of course, it helped enormously that the other people on our tour were so much fun!!!

My first Road Scholar experience was wonderful. Tomas was a welcoming host and his hotel was clean, comfortable and well-located. I enjoyed both the lectures and the free time for exploring Prague. It is a beautiful city and I hope to return.

The Prague trip was outstanding. As someone who has visited Prague previously, I can say that I learned and experienced much more than was possible on my own. The balance of group vs. individual time was just right. Tomas Brychta was a welcoming host, well organized and so very helpful. The lectures were highly informative and well presented. I learned a great deal from each of them. I loved Hotel Petr and would happily return on my own -- I liked it all the more for it's European flavor -- along with the comfortable and clean surroundings and helpful staff. It's location was perfect -- close enough, but a tad outside of the tourist center (the Old Town), so that it was pleasant all by itself and also offered some sanctuary from the hubbub. And a big advantage, was that although completely comfortable and secure, I did not feel like I was living in an American-style, four-star, insular "bubble." It really added to the experience, all by itself. And then there is Prague itself -- if you don't feel a bit like a cultural toddler as a North American visiting this glorious old city, then I suspect you missed it! I mean this in a positive way, of course. An outstanding experience overall.
