ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.

This program was truly a semester's worth of study without having to sit through a traditional course! Because of the expertise of Kevin, Annette, and my fellow participants, I will be able to construct a comprehensive sabbatical presentation for my English Department. All involved have inspired me to continue the study of English history, literature, and culture through Road Scholar programs. Kudos!

Don't even need to have read the books to enjoy the tour. We all got inspired though and bought the books during the tour. Kevin made everything very exciting, I think because he was so enthusiastic. He particularly wanted us to appreciate Thomas Hardy. I came home ready to start a Thomas Hardy poetry group. First time I ever really appreciated poetry. We visited wonderful little villages, ate great food and stayed in delightful hotels. The tour leaders and even the bus driver ate with us and we had some fascinating discussions about England, culture and current events. Hope you take the trip and have a great time. Say hello to Kevin for me.

If you love English literature, this program is not to be missed! With our wonderful leader, Annette, and our very knowledgeable lecturer, Kevin, we followed in the footsteps of Jane Austen, Thomas Hardy, Agatha Christie, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and Charles Dickens. Kevin was always reading to us from letters, novels, and poems -- we'd never been to an Elderhostel before in which we were totally immersed in so much literature. We visited the medieval village of Lacock, where many literary films have been set, enjoyed a cream tea in the Pump Room in Bath, the focal point for society in Austen's day, toured the homes of Austen, Christie, Dickens, and Hardy, strolled the streets of the picturesque port of Dartmouth, visited the Abbotsbury Swannery, the only place in the world where you can walk through a colony of nesting mute swans, climbed to the top of Maiden Castle, one of Europa's largest hill forts, and in Dorchester saw the places that are mentioned in Hardy's "Mayor of Casterbridge" and even stayed in the hotel which is featured in the novel. And these were just a few of the highlights! On our own we could've never seen and experienced all we did with Elderhostel in about 12 days.

I have taken every type tour and cruise, in every price range. I have found Road Scholar, especially for the price, to be the best travel experience both as a company and with who they attract as their clientele. From the first phone call, I can relax, confident that every detail will be handled. Their offerings are so huge, we have no excuse. I need not, and won't, go any other way!

This was our first experience with Road Scholar and it won't be our last. Our leaders were excellent and our fellow travelers were lovely people. The program was all I had hoped for, with some stops featuring local experts with intimate knowledge. I treasure the memories of Jane Austen's quiet little Steventon and, unexpectedly, our private afternoon at Greenway, Agatha Christie's country home. Tour director Kevin did an especially good job giving us as much of London in two days as humanly possible, but with the right pacing.

It was a great trip, and Kevin did an excellent job. He is extremely well-read and could always pull out appropriate literary reference for places we visited. He's a master of trivia and always had quirky bits of info. He took us to some offbeat, out-of-the-way places that were charming. Overall, a wonderful trip.

This was a brilliant tour. Our tour guide David was charming and excellent at keeping us moving. ( as were the group members who were always on time!) our content guide, Kevin Flude was the best we have ever had in many years of travel. I learned so much about all the authors. Our itinerary was packed and our days were long but everything was so interesting, and there was lots of free time at stops. The hotels were good and the food typical Englisgph fare with some notable pub lunches. I would highly recommend this tour for literature lovers!

This was a wonderful experience, well planned and well led. Don't worry if you haven't read everything on the reading list; Kevin Flude will fill you in by reading relevant sections of the books as you travel from place to place. His enthusiasm is infectious, and he's a wonderful trip leader.
