The Iceland New Years trip was an adventure. The country, even in winter has its own beauty, and provides a wonderful and relaxing setting for exploration and learning. The fireworks display is amazing and, for me, surpassed those in the states and other countries where they are localized on barges in rivers. The residents are friendly and helpful.

A fine trip, overall; crowds gone in the winter, although so is the daylight. A few quibbles: our fireworks viewing site was changed a week before we left home, from the Perlan, with a 360 degree view, to a nice hotel with 180; couldn't see the other side of town. Probably didn't matter. The visit to the site of the Althing was from the coach after dark; couldn't even stop and touch the ground. There's not much learning/lectures on this trip-, mostly sight seeing. What there was was on the coach, with an audio system that was almost unbearable. Our leader was nice but his accent hampered understanding, especially coupled with the coach sound. Boo. But what a great place! And the fireworks! Planning oncoming back in the summer to see the other Iceland.

More than expected ! Iceland is a stark beauty in black and white during Winter. The fireworks has to be experienced since it is like NO other and can not be explained.

What a wonderful way to end the old year and start the new! Reykjavik is an easy town to get around; even walking in the snow. The hotel and it's breakfast buffet was outstanding. And I REALLY enjoyed our guide Finn. As an Icelandic native, he was a wealth of knowledge and shared it with a dry wit. The people are smart, funny and a little mysterious- is it the 'hidden people' at work. This is a trip that should be on everyone's wish list.

I've tried twice to write a review; there may be a website problem. Good luck

You are not going to like my review of the Program #1889RJ. You set this up with the Friendship Force. I have traveled with them since 1990 on 29 trips and never had a bad experience. I would not recommend that they sign up with you again. I was delayed from my departure city due to flights being cancelled all over the U.S.No one told me if this happened Icelandair flights out of Denver, CO only occur every other day. Therefore, I lost 3 days of the trip and had to pay extra . When I arrived on December 31, I was taken to the wrong hotel and had to call Boston to get the correct place. I had no sleep, arrived at the correct hotel with only an hour to spare for the program to start that day. I had no sleep for 48 hours if I was to participate in the New Year;s festivities. They were the only thing the made the trip even worthwhile. Inga, the guide basically ignored me and I had to ask her for a list of the participants and the boot covers. She led us to areas where the biting sleet made the program less than enjoyable. We couldn't see the Northern Lights due to fog. You did not mention the weather conditions that could make these tours difficult.I will never go on another trips of yours again. Anyone should think twice about it too. This is my first and last with your company.

Road Scholar's response:

This was a fabulous way to spent the end of 2015 and the beginning of 2016! Every day was filled with amazing sights and experiences, waterfalls, geysers, bonfires, fireworks, museums...we did it all! Thank you, Inge, for making Iceland come alive for me.

This is the second consecutive New Year's Eve program I've done with Road Scholar. And this one far exceeded the one I did last year in the U.S. in terms of providing a joyful, convivial, congenial celebration at a gala reception and dinner followed by visual excitement at the bonfires, observed up close and personal, and celebratory fireworks, observed from a private suite on the top floor of a hotel. The Icelanders really know how to throw a party. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to have a ringside seat for the celebrations. And it was a delight to see the town, really an over-sized village, of Reykjavik donned in holiday lights and festooned with glittering ice and snow. Outdoor temperatures were about the same as what the east coast of the U.S. was experiencing, so it was not uncomfortable touring during our mid-winter visit, though the lack of daylight hours limited our range and duration. But we soldiered through some gale force winds to see the Gullfoss, and hiked to the top of Skogafoss just before a sleet storm descended on the area. I for one am resolved to return to Iceland during the midnight sun in order to take full advantage of the many scenic wonders the country has to offer. But I will always remember our Icelandic New Year's Eve celebration that is not to be missed!

The variety of activities in this short program is amazing. Thermal swimming pool, frozen waterfall, lunch in a greenhouse, geothermal energy, excellent museums and a fantastic New Year's Eve. This was the best 4 1/2 day trip ever.

Program was an excellent introduction to Iceland. We were able to experience a little of everything. The fireworks were amazing. I would just stress that you need very warm clothes and proper footwear.

This program should be on your "bucket list" if you've not experienced New Year's in Iceland. Amazing culture, people, history, food, scenery, geology, weather that can seemingly change every ten minutes, and about 600 tons of New Year's fireworks combine to provide an experience you'll never forget.

Iceland: New Year's Eve in Reykjavik sounds like a cold, dark, noisy trip. On the contrary, we were delighted every day by the beautiful winter sites and of course the Amazing Fireworks display. The Perlan on New Year's eve was perfect and we noted that 'Modern Times' rated it Number 5 out of 10 of the best places to see before you die! The geology and use of geothermal energy in Iceland is very impressive. I think a summer tour would be great also.
