Road Scholar
Program #1379RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Enjoyed very much the presentation at Fort Clinch. Cumberland Island was a totally different terrain for me. Enjoyed the sights and all the presentations. Actually the best part of the trip was the very enjoyable company of the other participants.

This was my first Road Scholar trip so I didn't quite know what to expect. I usually travel with my husband so I was a little apprehensive about my upcoming experience. Well, I began to realize at once that I was among a wonderfully inquisitive, accepting, caring, friendly, outgoing and welcoming group of travelers, as well as staff, and all with a true zest for life and learning. I felt as if Road Scholar trips could become a safe, predictable avenue for future travel for both my husband and me, whether we are alone or with each other. As we age we tend to become naive in some of our choices concerning our energy, our travel accommodations and some of our decisions as to just where to spend our allotted time in a given area of our world. But, I see with any Road Scholar group or trip most of those choices are already planned and I feel we would always get the most from our time, money and energy spent in pursuing our education and expanding our interest, curiosity and knowledge.

The Amelia and Cumberland Islands program offers the opportunity to explore two islands with parallel, but very different histories. On Amelia Island, we found the historical tours and lectures fascinating. Cumberland Island is unlike any other place we have visited. The natural setting is spectacularly beautiful. Staying at the Greyfield Inn is a delightful step back to elegant living of an earlier time. We travelled in March. Though there were two sunny, mild days, we were very glad to have rain gear, winter jackets, hats, and gloves for much of the trip. Other than climbing in and out of an open pickup for the Cumberland Island tour, we felt that activity level was quite moderate. This was our first Road Scholar trip; we look forward to future travel with Road Scholar.

On primitive Cumberland Island one will see what the early settlers faced in the New World.
