ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.

My wife and I both enjoy this Hawaii trip. Though the travel time on board ship was long. The adventure time, the five days around the islands, was worth it. Seeing the volcano crater was very impressive. It was too bad the we could not go around the road as the hazardous gases were spewing up out of the center and flooding the road. The most impressive part of this trip was the Pearl Harbor Memorial for me being ex-Navy. You just cannot help but being extremely impressed and emotional by looking at all of the names of the ships and the people who were buried under the waves along with them. I was disappointed that I could not get aboard the submarine, as it required a ticket which we could not get because the tenders going over to the memorial were not running due to high wind. I would've expected the submarine tour to be an alternative choice by Rhodes Scholar, but that did not happen. The coffee plantation we visited was very impressive, and I did not waste any time in shipping home 5 pounds of their best coffee beans. This came as a great surprise to my wife when we arrived home for the box had already arrived. Her question being why 5 pounds? The aquarium we visited was very fascinating. So many different types of sharks and stingrays and manta rays were very fascinating. I learn something new about a few of the fish that have barbs on the back of their bodies at the junction of their tail and body. This is used to ward off fish that tried to eat them by slicing the skin of the inside of the mouth or the outside of the fish. This is something new I did not know and it was quite fascinating. All in all it was a very enjoyable experience and I recommend it for anybody who is interested in the Hawaiian Islands.

The survey following the trip was too long, too detailed. I know that some participants in Road Scholar programs do not complete the survey because it asks for too much. The web site is pretty good, I had trouble getting some specific information, such as about the included insurance and the optional insurance...it took a while to find this information and I still needed to call and speak with people directly. Drop-down menus could be more helpful in this regard. I generally am able to navigate through websites pretty well so I'm assuming I'm not the only one searching for some information

We spent a lot of time on the ship, too much for my needs. The ship was huge and held almost 2,000 passengers. There was a lot of walking from place to place. Bring all of your toiletry needs as the ships inventory is very sparce and expensive. The ships lectures are usually followed by an opportunity to purchase. R.S. lectures were two hours a day and very helpful. They were not necessarily related to the landscape of Islands that we visited, mostly culture and history. The library was a very comfortable place to select books and read. The food in the main dining room was served royally and very delicious. The shows on the ship were wonderful. Our cabins were great and the stewards very helpful.
The education on the trip was a small part of the overall time we spent. We went to four of the Hawaiian Island and saw one or two sites on each...usually very quickly. However I got some good pictures and can dwell on them for a longer time.
I recommend this trip for people who want a cruise experience with a little nature thrown in.

Road Scholar's response:
This program was designed with much of the time spent on the ship since it travels from San Diego to Hawaii before spending 5 days in Hawaii and then returning to San Diego. During this time at sea, there are many activities available to Road Scholar participants, including daily Road Scholar lectures and other shipboard activities.
