Road Scholar
Program #12831RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

My flights home were rather uneventful even though I missed my connection to Windsor, Ontario from Toronto due to a late start in Quebec. However, I had the distinct pleasure to dine at an Italian restaurant in the Toronto airport with Ann and Louise, two very fine South Carolina ladies. It seemed strange to hear the waitress speak English and the first word crossing my mind was "Loyalist". Coming home from Windsor through customs on the US side was another story. When I recited my response to the officer's question, "What are you bringing back from Canada?", included was a Canadian Olympic scarf I picked up on impulse in the Quebec airport. The scarf has a beaver and maple leaf on it which I explained. The officer quite gruffly and formally said that the scarf couldn't into the US. "Seriously", I asked. He said, the only scarves that could be brought into the US were those with an American eagle. It was a real "gotcha" that literally frightened me at first. Long ago a university professor of education said that the finest teachers aren't necessarily those with the most degrees and/or knowledge. They are those who can excite a student to fall in love with the subject material and motivate them to learn more. I believe both Susan and Stephen exemplify these teachers. Both are caring and never seemed to tire of often time repetitious questions. Thanks to all of my fellow travelers who made me part of their Christmas 2013 family. You were simply marvelous!

This Christmas program is an exceptional value. The city is beautiful, the inhabitants cheerful and gracious, the accommodations clean and well located, and there was nothing we lacked. We had a truly splendid Holiday in good company.

Add me to the Susan fan club. Having "done" this same trip last year I can assure you that her diligent looking after us made this trip far superior to that of last year. She was always cheerful and "there" for us. (I hope she is having a well deserved R and R) The camaraderie of the group certainly added to the enjoyment of Christmas in Quebec.

Susan Sebert, Group Leader, was just wonderful. Her cheerful attitude and kindness toward all on the tour set the tone for the group. Susan lives in Quebec City and loves the place she calls home, so her knowledge and affection for all the places we visited and the things we saw were clearly apart of who she is. Plus, she's just down right fun! Thank you, Susan. Stephen Marchessault, Instructor, was truly excellent, fluent and deeply familiar with the history of this magical city and the peoples that make up Quebec City. Not only is Stephen knowledgeable, but his presentation skills are well honed and easy going. He did a remarkable job of keeping us awake during his afternoon lectures which took place after large and delightful lunches of rich and delicious food. The weather was quite frigid, but we followed our tour plan with Susan making sure other "transportation" options, other than walking, were available. The hotel accommodations were very, very good, great and hospitable staff, excellent in hotel bar and restaurant, a delight. The food on the tour was amazing! Well, thought out, nice options and very generous portions. All of our meals (offered as part of the tour package) were excellent. Plus it was fun to find a Pub or two that was cozy and offered varied menus. The best part of the tour was the group who gathered to form our band of Christmas Celebratories. We all had our "story" of Christmas away from family and friends, but we also found warmth, humor, intelligence, delight and fun with our group of "scholars". Great Trip!

Q: Who chooses to spend Christmas in the company of strangers? A: 33 intrepid Road Scholars! Our Fete de Noel in old Quebec was a wonderful experience. The accommodations were convenient and comfortable. The food was delicious and bountiful. The lectures were informative. The scenery was incomparable. Yes, it was cold and snowy, but we bundled up and enjoyed the company and the place.
