This program is a great introduction to what Rode Scholars has to offer. It was our first Road Scholars trip, and I can't believe any others could be any better.

Just completed the Georgian Golden Isles program based on St. Simon's Island, GA. Subjects were varied (something for everyone), trips interesting and presenters enjoyable. Very good director. We loved our accommodations and view and wi-fi in each room. Also full kitchen and free use of washer and dryer! Food very good though not outstanding.

We met so many really nice people and the program was excellent, busy and rewarding. I especially liked the shrimping excursion aboard the Lady Jane.

Excellent program: one of the best-organized we've attended! Something different every day and most of the day is spent in the field, with lectures mostly at night and/or when it rained. Great speakers who made the history and nature of the area fascinating. Several meals at local restaurants were also very enjoyable. The accommodations at this golf resort were the best we have ever had with Road Scholar programs, although the meals were probably the worst - another reason that eating out so often was appreciated!

I totally agree with Carol about the trip to Sapelo, but what I really really bonded with was the time on the beach with Georgia Graves, the naturalist; and also the turtle center on Jekyll Island. I would like to be onthe beach in May when the turtles are coming ashore.

A delightful week of touring islands. Sapalo is not to be missed and the trip on the shrimp trawler was a whole lot of fun as well as educational. I highly recommend this program!

My husband & I just returned from this trip (Sept. 30-Oct. 5). LOVED IT! Hotel was comfy, meals satisfactory. Leader Rusty kept close watch and made sure those with food allergies, etc. were taken care of properly. A2B Shuttle right on time both ways. Field trip bus driver D-Ray was a hoot and very safety minded (ask him if he's developed a joke about "so this man with a ferret walks into a bookstore.....") Speaker, Georgia was first rate, had an engaging personality, tremendously knowledgeable and was very approachable. Don't miss the presentation on women's period clothing, presented with great humor. My favorite part of the trip was the visit to Sapelo Island. Our island bus driver was also master basket weaver Yvonne Grovner, who gave us a wonderful basket weaving demo as we ate our Reynolds Mansion boxed lunch at the seashore (the Mansion was occupied at the time; we only saw the kitchen). The lunch at Jekyll Island Club was superb and the time to explore on our own was great. The turtle hospital there is incredible and there is a beautiful gallery on the grounds with lovely local art. This trip was a relaxing breath of fresh air for us (city folks) and one we will fondly remember for a long time to come.

Wonderful trip. Combines fascinating history, lively nature learning, and visits to beautiful and historic sites. Gorgeous beaches! Important piece of the history of our country. This was my first Road Scholar trip and first trip to this area. I hope to do more.

The was a relaxing, low-key program, with a delightful host and main presenter. Both the host and the woman who did more presentations and field trips than any of the other presenters were very accommodating and flexible. They solicited suggestions from the Road Scholars as the days went by and incorporated changes when they could. For instance, the final evening's program was to be a video, but they called in a local musician/singer/storyteller instead, an absolutely delightful way to wrap up the week. The presentations and field trips were varied and covered topics relating to the geology, natural history, and human history of three of the Georgia Sea Islands. All of the presenters were very knowledgeable and all but one was also very engaging and quite adept at working with groups. (The aforementioned "one" was fine, just not quite up to the quality of the others.) The accommodations were among the best I have had on an RS trip, a large motel-type room in a golf resort, with pool privileges included. I do agree with the reviewer below who felt that the meals were not as good as on the other RS trips that I have taken, except for the one out at a local restaurant and the one at the Reynolds Mansion, which were excellent! This was the lowest activity level trip I have taken with Road Scholar, and I might even rate it "easy" rather than "moderate," mostly because there was more than one occasion when one could choose to sit on a bench and enjoy the view rather than walk through loose beach sand or walk along a marsh.

Do not miss this adventure. Perfect mixture of outdoor activities and lectures. Easy walks through the marshes and on the beaches. The lecturers are top notch as are the field trips. Very good and accommocations with wonderful views of the marsh. All food was very good. Was my first Road Scholar adventure. The price is also very good for all that this trip included. Don't pass this one up if you love nature, history, and the outdoors.

Can't say enough about this educational and fun program on these GA barrier islands. It was my first Road Scholar but won't be my last. Our coordinator was friendly, the guides were very well informed and seemed to love their subjects and the accommodations were terrific.
