Program #6864RJ
7 Days | 6 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This program was a terrific overview of Santa Fe: the art, culture, music, food, scenery, people and history. The Lodge at Santa Fe, where we stayed, was very nice, and the fragrance of the piñon pine burning in the fireplace was wonderful. We ate lunch and dinner at many different restaurants, which provided great food in a variety of settings. Thanksgiving dinner was an amazing buffet at the historical La Fonda Hotel. Our leader did a fine job, the instructors kept us entertained as they taught, and the bus driver was always attentive to our comfort and safety.

It was a fun program. We got to go outside of Santa Fe to an Indian pueblo which was very different. We also got to go to different restaurants rather than eating in the hotel restaurant all the time. Thanksgiving Day dinner was a feast.

This was, in several ways, one of the better Road Scholar/Elderhostel trips I've enjoyed. The primary reason for its success was the choice of instructors. All of them were outstanding. Mr. Osborne had a lot of knowledge and enthusiasm to share, Ms. Schneider and Cirici were both interesting and enjoyable as was Mr. Roybal. His music, commentary and sphere of interest were inspirational. Would love to have had more time with all of them. Sadly, the venue’s concept of a vegetarian menu was tofu and more tofu. The meal and instruction at the Santa Fe Cooking school were excellent and the vegetarian meal at Rancho de Chimayo was spectacular. It would have been nice to have been closer to the town center. The transport to and from, however, was good. It was a tight schedule and a bit more R&R might have been helpful. Otherwise, Bravo Alan and the other presenters! Reiss DuPlessis, Laguna Woods, CA

We agree with her opinion of the hotel. It is much too far out of town. We would be happy to spend a little more to be able to stroll to the plaza. The lectures and field trips were fine and our Group Leader, Alan Osborne, was truly excellent. It would have been good to add a field trip to an Indian Pueblo. Colin and Judy

Susan from Arlington Heights, IL Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 11/18/12 - 11/24/12
This program had many positive qualities. But, the accommodations are NOT one of them. We stayed on a commercial strip several miles from the central plaza, were served BAD meals and felt isolated from the culture we were studying.
