Courtyard Hotel Eastgate: Johannesburg, 1 nights
Type: Hotel

Description: The Courtyard Hotel, a beautifully appointed, Tuscan-themed hotel, is located on a small lake only 15 minutes from the Johannesburg International Airport in a very secure area. All studio suites have private, attached bathrooms, and either twin or double beds.

Room amenities: Large rooms include full bathrooms, seating/office area, television, patios overlooking the lake as well as coffee/tea making facilities, telephone, radio, hair dryer, TV, AC/heat, safe, fan, safe/lock box, and electrical outlets. Refrigerator, ironing board, and iron are available on request.

Facility amenities: Amenities include a jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, pool (not heated), restaurant serving continental meals, bar, room service, and US currency exchange. Hotel staff can provide laundry service during week-days; guests can also do their laundry for a nominal fee. Guests can get 15 minutes wireless free per day on each of their personal wireless devices. After the 15 minute deal guests can purchase a voucher from the front desk or via credit card on the web link. The purchase will generate a username and password to be entered on screen by the guest. Alternatively, a PC computer and printer is available at the guest office but the 15 minute free wi-fi deal does not apply. The voucher prices vary by time: in summer 2013 30 minutes of wireless costs 30 South African Rand, 1 hour is 50 South African Rand, 2 hours is 90 South African Rand, 4 hours is 145 Rand, and 1 day is 195 Rand.

Mobile Tented Camp: Moremi Game Reserve, 3 nights
Type: Luxury Tented Camp

Description: An authentic, tented safari camp is set up in a private location with Hemingway-style safari tents. Each tent has two beds with linens and an attached bathroom with chemical toilet and bucket shower (hot water on request). All meals are taken in casual safari style near the campfire and shaded by many large trees.

Room amenities: Tents have plentiful floor space and are tall enough to stand up in. Back wall is zippered and connects to bathroom area, so you do not exit the tent in order to access the shower and toilet. Tent walls have large screens allowing for ventilation and views; screens can be covered for privacy and warmth.

Facility amenities: A separate dining tent is set up with a table and chairs; meals are taken here in the shade of the tent. Wake up calls are provided each morning, and laundry services are provided free of charge. Please note that under garments are not washed by the camp staff due to local customs.

Bathroom: Bathrooms are attached but there is not piped running water. Toilets are chemical toilets (that are cleaned at least once per day) and showers are bucket style (hot water on request). Wash basins are filled upon request.

Imbabala Zambezi Safari Lodge: Upper Zambezi River, 2 nights
Type: Lodge

Description: The Imbabala Zambezi Safari Lodge is a beautiful thatched lodge resting by the Zambezi River in Zimbabwe. Due to its border with the Chobe Forest Reserve, Imbabala is a regular stop for elephant herds. The lodge features a lounge, dining room, and bar area but meals are often served outside by a hospitable staff. Rooms are stone and thatch mini-lodges with breathtaking views of the Zambezi River and a watering hole where animals often congregate. During the day guests can take advantage of morning and afternoon game drives, river safaris, walking safaris, fishing safaris, and more. Imbabala has an excellent location for those exploring Southern Africa: the lodge is approximately 30 minutes to Chobe National Park (Botswana), 90 minutes to Livingstone (Zambia) Airport, and 60 minutes to Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe) Airport.

Room amenities: Each free standing thatched chalet possesses a front patio looking towards the Zambezi River with a screened front entrance, opening to the bed area (beds include mosquito nets.) Behind the bed area you find a dividing wall with access to your private bathroom as well as an outside shower located at the farthest end of the chalet. Electricity is provided in the rooms; recharging of batteries is possible.

Facility amenities: The lodge includes a tiled swimming pool, open air lounge, bar area, dining room, and an outside dining area. Laundry service is included free of charge. Wireless is available in the common areas free of charge. Simply ask for the password from management and use on your personal device.

Thorntree River Lodge: Livingstone (Victoria Falls), 2 nights
Type: Lodge

Description: Thorntree River Lodge is a wonderfully situated camp on the banks of the Zambezi River with comfortable stone and thatch chalets hidden in the tangle of lush riverine bush. All chalets have large private bathrooms and are shaded by a large thatched canopy. The atmosphere is informal and one of classic safari style. The wide sweeping panorama of the river lends a special magic to the location. Thorntree's riverside location and its unique position within the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park allows for a wide choice of activities, including sunset cruises, game-drives, cultural tours, fishing, and visit to Victoria Falls. The esteemed national park is a sanctuary for white rhino as well as a haven for many other species including giraffe, sable, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo and a wide variety of birds.

Room amenities: All chalets are built of stone with a thatched-roof and private deck overlooking the river. Chalets include private bath with a bathtub/hand-held shower, outdoor shower, fan, and patio. Rooms have electrical outlets for recharging batteries and mosquito nets on beds. Elephants and hippos are sometimes seen on the lawn.

Facility amenities: Amenities at the lodge include a swimming pool, bar, and main lounge area with an expansive deck overlooking the Zambezi River. The lodge also offers a laundry service at additional cost. Due to wild animals on the lodge grounds, guests may not walk around at night and are advised to wear neutral colors while game viewing. Wi-fi is not available at the lodge. Thorntree is in the process of installing Wi-Fi in the public areas. The service should be available for 2014. Breakfast includes fruit, yogurt, cereals, muffins, full English breakfast with tea, coffees and fruit juice. Delicious buffets of salads, pasta, quiche, and other creations are served at lunch. Dinner is a set three course meal (starter, main dish, dessert, served with red or white wine). Bottled water is included. The lodge offers a spacious dining room. Mfuwe Lodge: South Luangwa National Park, 4 nights
Type: Lodge

Description: Mfuwe Lodge is situated in the heart of the South Luangwa National Park and is built between two spectacular lagoons. The open plan design keeps the comfort and relaxation of guests in mind, but also capitalizes on the fact that an African wilderness experience is a blend of colors, textures, sounds, aromas and sights unmatched anywhere else in the world. Each chalet has a large private deck overlooking one of the lagoons. From the comfort of the lodge you can view Africa's majestic wildlife as animals come down to drink. Elephant, hippopotamus, many antelope species and crocodiles are plentiful in this area.

Room amenities: Each large, individual chalet has traditional decor, a full bathroom with sunken bath, deck overlooking the lagoon, electric lights and outlets, safe, ceiling fan and hair dryer (available at reception). At night you can hear hippos grunting in the lagoon

Facility amenities: The beautiful Mfuwe Lodge has a lounge, pool, library, restaurant, and bar. Laundry service at Mfuwe is offered. There is no Wi-fi service available at Mfuwe Lodge however guests may ask to use a computer in the office to access the Internet (rate of $10 per 30 minutes).
