Program #19349RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Instructors

Please note that changes may occur.

Mr. Owen Comora

Owen Comora’s passion for birding began in his teens, and that passion has only grown since he and his wife moved to Sarasota in 1998. As a senior volunteer bird interpreter at Sarasota’s Myakka River State Park, Owen has devoted more than 3,000 hours at one of the oldest and largest state parks in the state. Owen is president of The Friends of Myakka River and also a member of Sarasota Audubon Society, the Crowley Nature Museum and the American Birding Association..

Jeanne Dubi

Jeanne Dubi moved from New York City to Florida in 1997 and has since immersed herself in birding and the conservation of birding habitat in Sarasota County. In 1997, she began a survey of the birds of the Celery Fields, a storm water retention site near the interstate. After tallying 132 species, Jeanne approached the Sarasota Audubon Society with a proposal to protect the Fields from intense public use. The Fields were designated for passive use, and the bird count has grown to 206 species.

Lynn Jakubowicz

Lynn has been a birder for more than 30 years. She holds a bachelor’s in education from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. She has been the membership chair for The Sarasota Audubon for the past five years and is also active in conducting bird surveys of Sarasota's parks. The team she leads has completed a two year study of Red Bug Slough and is currently doing surveys of Urfer and Rothenbach parks. She has been a member or leader of Christmas bird-count teams for more than 30 years.

Kathryn Young

Kathryn received her bachelor’s in education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and worked for many years as a computer technology instructor for the Nortel Communications Corporation. She later obtained a nursing degree and worked as a professional nurse in a variety of medical areas. Since moving to Sarasota in 2004, she has been active in leading Audubon Field Trips. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Sarasota Audubon.

Mr. John Ginaven

John earned his master’s in nuclear physics at the University of Wisconsin. He is a retired teacher and naturalist from several nature centers. John worked at Tyler Arboretum, near Philadelphia and Ashland Nature Center near Wilmington, Del. He also served on the board of the Valley Forge Audubon Society and the Sarasota Audubon Society. John has been a bird watcher for 39 years in states throughout the U.S., as well as in Costa Rica, Panama, Belize, Trinidad and Australia.

Jerry Sandy Ulrikson

Jerry and Sandy Ulrikson moved to Sarasota in 2005 and are avid birders and wildlife enthusiasts. They served as volunteers for several years with the Whooping Crane reintroduction program, joining the migration crew in bringing Whooping Cranes from Wisconsin to Sarasota behind an ultra-light aircraft. The also volunteer in other wildlife non-profit organizations.
