Prof. Bill Messenger

Bill Messenger is a musician whose Road Scholar programs are a mix of popular music history and song, combining whimsical tales with catchy tunes that tickle the ivories and the funny bone. In his musical career Bill has played backup piano for Mama Cass Elliot, studied musical composition at the Peabody Conservatory under Louis Cheslock and been voted “Baltimore’s Best Pianist” by the readers of Baltimore Magazine. Critic Robert Lippman called him “a cross between Max Morath and Victor Borge.”

Marie Gormley-Tarleton

A former newspaper woman, high school teacher, and docent at the Hagley Museum in Wilmington, Del., Marie Gormley-Tarleton has relied upon her teaching experience during her work at the Delaware Institute for the Arts, where she participates in summer and school programs. She studied acting at the People's Light and Theater Company, and has attended many national storytelling festivals and workshops.

Gary Wray

Dr. Gary Wray is a professional military historian who has published a book on Fort Miles, Delaware's great coastal fortification during World War II. He is on the adjunct faculty of Delaware Technical College and University of Maryland, and is an elected member of the Wilmington College Faculty Senate where he teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate programs in history and education.

Michelle Rumble

Michelle Rumble is a retired English teacher and reference librarian. The experiences of her father and mother during WWII ignited her deep interest in WWII history and led her to research the role of women during that time period — particularly their role as spies and resistance fighters. Michelle has presented numerous programs about the roles and experiences of women during WWII for the Road Scholar program and for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. She has also conducted creative writing workshops for students of all ages.
