Dr. Carmen Trisler

Dr. Carmen Trisler owns a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University whose research has focused on aquatic insects — especially dragonflies, mayflies and caddisflies. A professor at OSU’s Stone Lab, she taught for seven years at a field station in The Bahamas in conjunction with The College of The Bahamas and The Bahamian Reef Environment Education Foundation. She is a gardener, has an English Mastiff and loves to watch insects going about their daily lives.

Tom Bartlett

Tom Bartlett is a Master Bird Bander for the U. S. Geologic Survey and a certified bird bander/trainer for the North American Banding Council. He has banded over 50,000 birds of 200-plus species. He has led bird banding and census efforts at Springville Marsh State Nature Preserve for nearly 30 years and the Lake Erie Islands for more than 20 years.

Lisa Brohl

Lisa Kutschbach-Brohl is chair of the Lake Erie Islands Chapter of the Black Swamp Conservancy and director of the Nature Camp Programs. She earned a master’s in environmental studies with a specialty in wetlands from Ohio State University. Lisa has worked for the National Park service, as an instructor at the Ohio State University and as a biological technician with the U. S. Geological Survey.

Kristin Stanford

Kristin Stanford is an expert in amphibian and reptile ecology, including population census and habitat assessment. She developed a website dedicated to understanding snakes, as well as literature addressing snake-human conflicts. Kristin has appeared on “Wild Ohio,” a PBS show produced by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, as well as the Discovery Channel’s “Dirty Jobs.” She is the 2012 recipient of the Ohio Division of Wildlife's Diversity Conservation Award.

Dr. Charles Herdendorf

Dr. Charles Herdendorf was founding director of the Center for Lake Erie Area Research and the Ohio Sea Grant College Program at Ohio State University. From 1973 to 1988, he directed the Franz Theodore Stone Laboratory, Ohio's biological field station on Lake Erie at Put-in-Bay. Dr. Herdendorf holds a 100-ton Masters License for Great Lakes vessels and has more than 25 years of experience conducting research aboard vessels operating in Lake Erie and the other Great Lakes.

Valerie Mettler

An educator on the snakes and spiders of the Lake Erie Islands, Valerie Mettler has been sharing her knowledge of the region’s wildlife since 2004. She has served as a board member for the Lake Erie Islands Chapter of the Black Swamp Conservancy, as well as the Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center. Valerie holds a bachelor’s in education from the University of Akron, and has continued to further her knowledge of the natural world through courses at Ohio State University Stone Lab.
