EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. Minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Paul BARBER

Paul Barber is a native South Dakotan who has lived in Rapid City the past 37 years. A graduate of the University of Sioux Falls, Paul has been a farmer, rancher and investment advisor. During October and November pheasant hunting season, Paul becomes the hunt master on his ranch in South Dakota. He has been married for over 40 years to his wife, Pat, and both are passionate about sharing their wealth of knowledge about South Dakota and Wyoming’s national parks and monuments.

Group Leaders make sure your program runs smoothly and are attuned to the needs of Road Scholar participants. These Group Leaders are participating on at least one day of one date of this program.

Paul & Pat Barber

Paul and Pat Barber are native South Dakotans who have lived in Rapid City the past 35 years. Graduates of the University of Sioux Falls, Paul has been a farmer, rancher and investment advisor, while Pat has taught K-12 in subjects ranging from French, German and library science. The two have been married over 40 years and are passionate about passing on to others their wealth of knowledge about South Dakota and Wyoming’s national parks and monuments.

Theresa & Paul Reed

Theresa and Paul Reed are passionate about travel, especially 10,000 feet above ground. Both are flight assistants who have a fascination with aviation and a love of learning. Theresa was raised in North Dakota and South Dakota, but spent much of her adult life living on Maui. Paul was raised in Southern California and served in the U.S. Army as a helicopter mechanic. The two are self-proclaimed “foodies” and love to cook, bake and re-create food from their travels.
