Dr. Douglas Heist

Douglas Heist has led Road Scholar programs at Peabody Conservatory since 1982, and teaches piano in the Peabody Preparatory Department and also at McDonogh School in Baltimore County. He earned both his M.M. and D.M.A. in piano from Peabody Conservatory. Douglas has performed as soloist and accompanist throughout the Baltimore area and has appeared several times in the Baltimore Composers' Forum at Goucher College, which features new compositions by local composers.

Mrs. Kris Faatz

Kris Faatz holds degrees from Swarthmore College and the Peabody Conservatory. At Peabody, Kris was an accompanist and performer with the choral, opera, instrumental and composition departments. In addition to her work with Road Scholar, Ms. Faatz is an active studio teacher, and with two colleagues has founded a music school for private study in Bel Air, MD. Ms. Faatz is currently pursuing a Master's degree in fiction writing at the Johns Hopkins University and is working on her first novel.

Dr. Janice Macaulay

Janice Macaulay is a Doctor of Musical Arts, having studied composition and conducting at Cornell University with the renowned Czech composer Karel Husa. She has been teaching music history, theory and keyboard performance for more than twenty years and also conducts chorus, orchestra, and chamber ensembles. Dr. Macaulay has received various awards in composition and her music has been performed at colleges and universities across the country.
