Instructors

These instructors are participating on at least one day of one date of this program.
Please note that changes may occur.

Peter Chausse

A Massachusetts native, Peter Chausse is a teacher and passionate local historian in Portland, Ore. Though a position with the U.S. Forest Service originally brought him to the Pacific Northwest, Peter is now an instructor at The Heritage Institute, a branch of Antioch University. He runs his own small walking excursion business in Portland and enjoys leading field trips with Road Scholar, during which he shares his knowledge of local art and natural history.

Joseph Couture

Joseph Couture is an expert on the geology and history of the Pacific Northwest. He studied geology at Portland State University and criminology at Southern Oregon University, and combined the degrees for his interest in forensic geology (geo-criminology). He is an accomplished lecturer on topics ranging from the Hawaiian Volcanoes to the Granite Plutons of Acadia National Park in Maine.

Sarah Curtis-Fawley

Sarah Curtis-Fawley has always had a passion for food and gardening — that passion led her and her husband, Chris, to study permaculture at the renowned Crystal Waters Eco-Village in Queensland, Australia. They moved to the U.S. in 2008 to create a business that united their passion for good food and small scale agriculture. Pacific Pie Company was launched in the spring of 2009, specializing in handmade savory pies. Pacific Pie Co. sources grass fed, humanely raised meat directly from farmers in Oregon, and features seasonal specials that highlight the region's bounty. Pacific Pie Co. strives to be as 'green' as possible, including composting, minimizing waste, using eco-friendly packaging, and sourcing local and seasonal ingredients.

Anna Curtin

Anna Curtin joined the staff of Portland Farmers Market in 2007 after several years of volunteer service with the organization. As the marketing and outreach coordinator, Anna enjoys sharing her passion for sustaining local food systems with the public at large. Anna was born and raised in New York’s Adirondack Mountains before relocating to the Pacific Northwest a decade ago to indulge her love of hiking, camping, and playing in the dirt. She lives with her partner and two rambunctious dogs in northeast Portland.
