EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Instructors

Please note that changes may occur.

Brinton Rutherford

Brinton Rutherford grew up in northern Lancaster County. He currently works as a resource staff person for Lancaster Mennonite Conference of Mennonite Church USA. His prior work includes five years as the director the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society. With an earned doctorate in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary, he also teaches theology and church history at the Lancaster campus of Eastern Mennonite Seminary and Eastern Mennonite University, and at Messiah College.

Bill Messenger

Bill Messenger is a musician whose Road Scholar programs are a mix of popular music history and song, combining whimsical tales with catchy tunes that tickle the ivories and the funny bone. In his musical career Bill has played backup piano for Mama Cass Elliot, studied musical composition at the Peabody Conservatory under Louis Cheslock and been voted “Baltimore’s Best Pianist” by the readers of Baltimore Magazine. Critic Robert Lippman called him “a cross between Max Morath and Victor Borge.”
