4 Days | 3 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Instructors

Please note that changes may occur.

Mr. Gary Lee

A retired Forest Ranger, Gary Lee is an Adirondack legend who has literally written the book on Adirondack birds. He writes a local column about flora and fauna and is a founder of the Adirondack Loon project, an organization dedicated to the research of these unique birds. Gary knows every inch of the county and enjoys leading adult students to habitats in the woods or in the waters that reveal an abundance of species.

Mr. Mark Manske

Mark Manske is the founder or Adirondack Raptors, which monitors and studies raptor populations throughout the 6-million-acre Adirondack Park. Mark is a public school educator, an adjunct professor, a wildlife rehabilitator, a master falconer, and a master raptor bander. He has published widely on issues related to birds of prey, and also writes a column for EMBARK, a periodical that is published every other month by the Adirondack Daily Enterprise in Saranac Lake.

Group Leaders

Group Leaders make sure your program runs smoothly and are attuned to the needs of Road Scholar participants. These Group Leaders are participating on at least one day of one date of this program.

Nancy Foltz

Nancy Sue Foltz is an artist and certified art teacher who has been directing the crafts program at Great Camp Sagamore for almost a decade. A former high school teacher, she focuses on offering a wide variety of age-appropriate crafts. From pots to plant pressing, from pine cone art to painting tee shirts, from papier mache to paper hats and so many things in between, her ideas are always fresh. Grandkids will end up with some great, outdoorsy craft projects to bring home. Among her other duties at Sagamore, Nancy Sue is also the group leader for many Road Scholar programs.
