Program #10345RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Instructors

Please note that changes may occur.

Righton McCallum

Righton McCallum is a retired English teacher and research librarian. She has taught the Local History and Research course at Blue Ridge Community College in Hendersonville, N.C. Righton authored the folklore chapter of the textbook “North Carolina Research: Genealogy and Local History” and has also written two books of her own Carolina-inspired poetry, “The Montreat Gate” and “Beside the Lake.” She and her husband have two sons, two granddaughters and an opinionated Scottish Terrier.

Marilyn McCredie

Born in the Hooper's Creek section of Henderson County, North Carolina, into a family that has held land there since land grant days, Marilyn McCredie grew up steeped in Appalachian folkways and tradition. This, plus her own rich experience, is the basis for most of her storytelling. She is a debunker of myths and a dispeller of stereotypes regarding mountain people. Her depth of knowledge and her skillful presentation have led her to be called “a cultural ambassador.”

Bobbie Pell

For over 25 years, Bobbie Pell has shared her love of story with audiences through written works, storytelling performances and workshops. Her specialty area, Celtic folklore and traditions, focuses on faerie lore, ballads and myths. A modern-day minstrel, Bobbie unites song and story in delightful images and universal themes. She holds degrees in Outdoor Environmental Education, Creative Writing and Literature. She lives on Avalon Ridge with her husband Ron and their many golden retrievers.
