Cindy Miano

Cindy Miano retired in 2004 from a career in elementary education where she taught fourth grade and served as a language Arts chairperson. In addition to managing Shawnee Institute Road Scholar programs, Cindy is a personal trainer and life coach. She practices Pilates, yoga and various strength training programs, and helps to promote wellness plans for individuals while helping them to achieve overall good health.

Brian Bergstol

Brian Bergstol is the touring golf professional for The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort and a PGA apprentice. He is a graduate of Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa., where he was the number one golfer for the Moravian Hounds all four years. Only months after becoming a certified professional golfer, Brian qualified for and played in the 2008 U.S. Open in Torrey Pines, Calif. Between tournaments he shares his experience and knowledge of the game with other players who want to improve.

Rick Koval

Rick Koval is a longtime resident of Luzerne County and a professional naturalist, consultant, wildlife photographer and award-winning outdoor writer. He was the director of land conservation for the North Branch Land Trust before becoming the head naturalist for Skytop Lodge in the Poconos. Rick is a local television personality as a naturalist on the popular show, “Pennsylvania Outdoor Life.” He is currently writing a book on the native orchids of the Poconos.

Group Leaders make sure your program runs smoothly and are attuned to the needs of Road Scholar participants. These Group Leaders are participating on at least one day of one date of this program.

Max Frey

Max Frey is a 2007 graduate of the Professional Golfers Career College. He has been Assistant Golf Professional at Orange Lake Resort and Country Club in Orlando Florida from 2007 until the present, and was also a Certified Teaching Professional at the McCord Golf Academy from 2008-2011. Max returned to Versailles, Ohio for the 2011 and 2012 season where he was Head Golf Instructor at Stillwater Valley Golf Club.
