Road Scholar
Program #11479RJ
9 Days | 8 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Lee Vale

Lee Vale spent the first 11 years of his life living on his family’s 43-foot wood fishing trawler, The Idle Hour. His commercial fishing family then settled in Yakutat, Alaska (pop. 691), which he still calls home. Lee’s love for southeast Alaska is reflected in the positions he has held as a Glacier Bay National Park & Wrangell St-Elias National Park and Preserve cultural interpreter and shore-side ranger. He joins us this season eager to be back on the water and share his stories about life in Southeast Alaska.

Group Leaders

Group Leaders make sure your program runs smoothly and are attuned to the needs of Road Scholar participants. These Group Leaders are participating on at least one day of one date of this program.
Please note that changes may occur.

Sandy Kincheloe

Sandy Kincheloe enjoys sharing her knowledge on Alaska’s natural history and Native culture with visitors to the country’s largest state. A resident of Alaska for 20 years, Sandy is a volunteer Ranger at Sitka National Historical Park, and works as a naturalist on wildlife study cruises out of Sitka. She has been an active leader of the Sitka WhaleFest, an event that celebrates and offers education on marine wildlife. Sandy has been a Road Scholar instructor and group leader since 1999.
