ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.

Mr. Robert Burchill

Robert is a retired lawyer and Canadian diplomat. He retired in 1997 after 35 years of service, spending half of his career in Ottawa and half in foreign assignments including Brazil, South Africa, Jamaica, and Chicago. Robert served as Canadian Consul General in Sydney, Australia, and as Minister of Commercial and Economic Affairs in London, England.

Jim Manson

In 1980, Dr. Jim Manson began his teaching career in Jamaica before returning to his native Canada, where he taught in the Quebec high school system for the next several years. He then served as a history professor at Concordia, McGill and Bishops Universities. Dr. Manson has been a Road Scholar instructor since 1992, and has journeyed by train, boat and coach with participants during numerous learning adventures across Canada.

Stephen Marchessault

Stephen Marchessault was raised in a bilingual family and has spent most of his life in Québec City. He majored in history at Glendon College at York University in Toronto, and over the years, has developed an interest in the history of Québec City. Stephen enjoys sharing his interest and knowledge of this World Heritage City with lifelong learners.

Mr. David Jeanes

David Jeanes is a retired professional engineer. He is vice-president of Heritage Ottawa, which is committed to the preservation of heritage architecture. He is also president of Transport 2000 Canada, which is devoted to sustainable public transportation. A native of Britain, David has lived in Ottawa much of his working life and spent 32 years in the high-tech industry on the design, standardization and marketing of global data-communication networks.

Kathryn Hewlett-Jobes

Kathryn Hewlett-Jobes is a Distinguished Senior Fellow with the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs where she teaches and researches on the role of business and NGOs in international development. During her career with Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, she served in Switzerland, Argentina, the Philippines and Denmark and was appointed High Commissioner to Jamaica, The Bahamas and Belize. Later, she joined the Inter-American Development Bank as Senior Advisor for the Multilateral Investment Bank (MIF) where she introduced new mechanisms to promote inclusive growth and managed the MIFII Replenishment process which resulted in $500 million new donations from 39 member countries. She was chairman of the board of the Canadian Foundation for the Americas (FOCAL) from 2009-2011.
